Matthias Rath: 'It is the multinational pharmaceutical companies that control the world'

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5

First you demolished the official' account of heart attacks and then you discovered the effectiveness of natural therapies, and especially the value of two amino acids lysine and proline together with vitamin C in treating cancer and other diseases. What impact did your research have on the pharmaceutical industry?

Dr. Rath's book "Why Animals Don't Get Heart Attacks ... But People Do" with detailed information about his cellular health research.

Dr. Rath: I started out doing conventional research into the causes of cardiovascular disease. At that time it was thought that a high level of cholesterol was their main cause. Under the influence of the manufacturers of cholesterol-lowering drugs, doctors were taught that a high level of cholesterol damages artery walls and that, alongside deposits of calcium and fibrous tissue, it was the principal cause of the formation of atheromas which block arteries, leading to heart attacks and strokes. Today we know that this was just another myth created by the marketing men in the pharmaceutical industry. If high blood cholesterol damaged artery walls it would also do this in other parts of our circulatory systems. The system would become blocked everywhere, and not just in the heart and brain. In other words, we would also suffer infarctions in the nose, the ears, the knees, the elbows, the fingers and in any other bodily organ. Plainly this is not the case.

Later I discovered that cardiovascular disease is virtually unknown in the animal kingdom, whereas it is the main cause of death in human beings. This was a great advance in natural health for the whole world. Animals produce their own vitamin C, which is necessary for the production of collagen molecules which reinforce our bodies and circulatory systems,. The more vitamin C, the more collagen, meaning greater stability for our blood vessel walls and fewer heart attacks. Animals rarely suffer heart attacks because they produce sufficient quantities of vitamin C in their own bodies. We human beings cannot produce a single molecule of vitamin C, and normally we obtain very few vitamins from our diet, which leads to the risk that our circulatory systems may become weakened. This series of discoveries was so convincing because it not only explained why animals do not have heart attacks and people do, but also why we suffer heart attacks but not nose attacks. Subsequent research and clinical studies have confirmed this finding beyond all possible doubt.

And that was when you condemned what was going on in your book Why Animals Don't Get Heart Attacks, But People Do.

Dr. Rath: Precisely. In this book I listed, for the first time, the laws of the pharmaceutical industry. These laws reveal the pharmaceutical trade in disease as an investment industry rather than an industry concerned with promoting human health. I unmasked the principle of patentability which governs the industry, whereby research aimed at solving health problems is replaced by research aimed at maximising profit. And I openly accused the pharmaceutical industry of being responsible for the premature death of hundreds of millions of people all round the world over recent decades and for the economic ruin of people and entire nations as a consequence of the enormous cost of medicines.

It is strange that the pharmaceutical industry has not taken any action against you

Dr. Rath: The only reason why the pharmaceutical industry has not taken reprisals against me is because I linked this unscrupulous trade in disease' with the greatest crimes against humanity committed during the 20th century: mass murder during the Second World War. It is a historical fact that the largest European petrochemical and pharmaceutical cartel financed Hitler's seizure of power 70 years ago. The Second World War was primarily a war to seize control of natural resources in Eastern Europe and Asia. The Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal of 1946 and 1947 declared that the Second World War would not have been possible without this petrochemical cartel called I. G. Farben . As a result of those Trials, I. G. Farben was split up into Bayer, BASF and Hoechst , and some of its directors were sentenced for starting a war contrary to international law, mass murder and the exploitation and plundering of public and private property in foreign countries, as well as other crimes against humanity. The history of the corporate action that lay behind the Second World War is documented in Josef Borkin's book, The Crime and Punishment of I.G. Farben, which you can find documented on our Foundation's website. That is why, ever since I first adopted my strategy of unmasking the pharmaceutical industry, it has been on the defensive. Thus it is no surprise that they have never dared to take reprisals against me or sue me for libel or slander. It is unacceptable that a few investors who back unscrupulous politicians, including the current administrations of the USA and Great Britain, can sacrifice the health of millions of people and the economic well-being of the world's nations for the main purpose of maintaining this multi-million pound fraud perpetrated against the entire planet.

We would thus be experiencing the culmination of a process that began with the creation of the industry itself. Are the terms business and health contradictory, at least as they have been interpreted to date?

Dr. Rath: The pharmaceutical industry is not an industry that evolved in a natural way. It was created artificially by investors who, in order to make money from disease, had to block natural and non-patentable medical remedies to ensure that they would become unavailable anywhere in the world. At the start of the 20th Century the Rockefeller Group already controlled the bulk of the petroleum industry in the USA and many other countries. With the help of these billion-dollar earnings the Group decided to turn health into a new market. The only thing was, the return or profit on this investment depended on commercial patents for invented pharmaceutical medicines. Accordingly, this new industry's profits were systematically used to turn medicine into a business controlled solely by the pharmaceutical industry. In just a few decades medicine came to be controlled by these interest groups via the influence they exerted on medical schools and faculties, as well as in the mass media and in political circles.

Obviously one of the main problems facing this industry was competition from natural health products. Most of the vitamins and essential nutrients needed for the basic metabolism of cells had already been discovered between 1920 and 1935. For the scientific world it was obvious that without these essential molecules in their metabolism, cells could not function properly and would cause disease. The pharmaceutical industry's strategists got wind of this and embarked on a global campaign to prevent this vital information being made available to all. However, suppressing this information was just the first step. Next they adopted other strategic measures to reinforce this fraudulent pharmaceutical business plan, such as discrediting information about natural and non-patentable therapies and, finally, attempting to ban all claims about prevention and natural therapies.

All these measures had a single aim: to protect the pharmaceutical industry based on patentable drugs which only alleviate symptoms from non-patentable natural therapies which are essential for the maintenance of cellular health. Quite simply, a preventable or eradicable disease is unprofitable.
