Like a Bat Out of Iraq

The hasty transfer of sovereignty to Iraq leaves the relatively powerless interim government hamstrung by escalating violence and financial disarray. In a move highlighting the severe threat the insurgency poses to security in Iraq, chief U.S. administrator Paul Bremer formally transferred sovereignty to an interim Iraqi government two days early.
