In a recent announcement, software giant Microsoft claims it will 'solve' cancer within 10 years by 'reprogramming' diseased cells back to a healthy state. In a post on the ‘Microsoft Stories’ site, writer Allison Linn describes how the company’s scientists, engineers, and programmers are trying to use algorithms and computers to figure out new treatments for the disease. But behind all the media hype, the reality is that Microsoft – like the drug industry – is apparently ignoring cancer’s primary cause.

This week, Jean-Claude Juncker, the unelected president of the European Commission – the executive arm of the Brussels EU – stood up in the European Parliament to make his so-called State of the Union Address. Essentially portraying himself as Europe’s equivalent to US president Barack Obama, in whose country an official annual address or message has been given by every elected president for over 200 years, Juncker began by stating that the Brussels EU is facing an existential crisis.

42-year-old James sat in front of his computer and was editing a text for his boss when suddenly he couldn’t move his left arm. The pain was debilitating and he was unable to breathe. He started sweating and fell unconscious. When he woke up in hospital the doctors told him he had just survived a major heart attack. Tiffany, a 32-year-old nurse, went for a routine health check and received a shocking diagnosis of advanced leukemia.

In yet another damning indictment of the dangers and ineffectiveness of cancer drugs, new research carried out in the UK has found that, in some hospitals, within 30 days of starting treatment, chemotherapy is killing up to 50 per cent of patients who receive it. With even the normally pro-pharma British media expressing shock and saying patients should be warned about the dangers of these toxic chemical treatments, the study provides further evidence that the credibility of chemotherapy as a cure for cancer is collapsing.

Interviewed by the Business Insider website following the recent launch of his latest book, Nobel-Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz stated that Europe is heading towards a "cataclysmic event" that could lead not only to the collapse of the euro currency but also the end of the Brussels EU itself. A former Chief Economist at the World Bank, Stiglitz believes that one more political event similar to the United Kingdom's recent decision to leave the Brussels EU is now all it would take to trigger these outcomes.

The BBC recently published a report describing how dozens of people who were child patients at a British psychiatric hospital in the 1960s and 70s say they were experimented on with a “truth serum”. As the report describes, the experience has left the victims with disturbing memories and unanswered questions. For anyone assuming that criminal experiments conducted by or on behalf of pharmaceutical, chemical, or other interests ceased after those carried out by Nazi doctors and the German IG Farben Cartel during WWII, the evidence clearly shows this is not the case. In fact, during the past century, such experiments have been far more commonplace than most people realize.

Multinational investment bank Goldman Sachs recently announced it had hired José Manuel Barroso, the former president of the Brussels EU Commission, as an advisor and nonexecutive chairman of its Goldman Sachs International arm. With Goldman Sachs accused by many people of helping set off the 2008 global financial crisis and then profiting from it by defrauding investors, Barroso’s mercenary acceptance of the appointment predictably attracted widespread outrage. Interestingly, however, despite the extensive media reporting, little attention has been paid to the fact that the road to Barroso’s new job may have begun at a meeting of the clandestine Bilderberg Group.

A new study has added to the mounting evidence that long-term use of antiepileptic drugs is a significant risk factor for vitamin D deficiency. Published in the Epilepsia journal the study found that despite living in the tropics where sunshine is plentiful, a high proportion of Malaysian children with epilepsy are at risk of vitamin D deficiency. Carried out by researchers at the University of Malaya, the study raises serious questions regarding the continued failure of our healthcare systems to address the issue of drug-induced nutrient depletion.

A recent article in the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper described how a doctor who had suffered from multiple sclerosis (MS) for 17 years finally beat the disease and became symptom-free after following a simple 7-step plan based on natural approaches. Centered around dietary and lifestyle changes, including the use of supplements, the article described the program as being “hailed by MS experts as a life-saving breakthrough for the disease.” It’s only a shame that articles like this are still relatively rare in the mainstream media.

On June 23, 2016, the people of Great Britain voted to leave the ‘Brussels EU’. This decision was a historic victory for democracy and the first step towards creating a better Europe. Moreover, despite how sections of the European and global media are already trying to portray it, this was not a victory for xenophobia or racism. It was a vote by a majority of concerned British citizens who refuse to allow the dictatorial construct in Brussels to determine all aspects of their lives. The result was a resounding victory of democracy over corporate dictatorship.

A scientific study conducted at the Dr. Rath Research Institute shows that commonly used prescription medications classified as channel blockers (widely used for management of high blood pressure, arrhythmias, angina pectoris and other conditions) can lead to deprivation of vitamin C inside the cells. These findings published in the American Journal of Cardiovascular Disease (June 2016, Vol. 6, No. 2) now explain the reason behind increased risk of heart disease, breast cancer and gum problems reported in many clinical studies with this class of drugs. Most significantly, the study addresses how to overcome this deficiency with vitamin C therefore providing scientific advice for millions of doctors around the world.

New studies presented at Heart Failure 2016 and the 3rd World Congress on Acute Heart Failure, which recently took place in Florence, Italy, provide damning evidence of the continued inability of orthodox medicine to prevent and treat this debilitating cardiovascular problem. With one in three heart failure patients still not having returned to work one year after being hospitalized for the first time, and one in four developing the condition within four years of suffering a first heart attack, it is clear that orthodox approaches are not addressing the primary cause of this disease.

While a recent poll suggests more than half of Americans now believe the procedure used by U.S. political parties to select candidates for the presidency is “rigged”, the fact is that Republican contender Donald Trump’s alleged mob connections raise equally serious questions about democracy in America today. Described by CNN – citing an interview with investigative journalist Wayne Barrett – as being "extraordinarily extensive," Trump’s suspected ties to New York and Philadelphia organized crime families are said to go back decades.

Whichever way you look at it the cost of cancer drugs is reaching dizzying heights. As the Washington Post pointed out this week, the $10,000-a-month cancer drug has now become the “new normal”. Today, because of this outrageous profiteering, the Pharma Cartel makes more money from cancer than any other health problem. But with awareness growing that non-patentable natural approaches to controlling the disease now exist, the skyrocketing price of patented cancer drugs is increasingly a desperate gamble.

A new study has found that zinc deficiency may contribute to chronic inflammation in people who are HIV-positive. Examining 311 HIV-positive people in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley, the research involved 177 men and 134 women who were aged between 18 and 60 years old. Published in the Biological Trace Element Research journal, the study observed that the average concentration of serum C-reactive protein (CRP), a biomarker of inflammation, significantly decreased as serum zinc concentrations increased in men and women and in all age groups.

An alarming new coroners court report has found that pharmaceuticals were involved in around 80 percent of overdose deaths in the Australian state of Victoria last year. Revealingly, while the deadliest illicit drug cited in the report was heroin, which contributed to a total of 168 deaths, pharma drugs played a role in almost double this number, at 330 fatalities. With urgent calls now being made for a real-time prescription monitoring system to be set up in Victoria, the implication that, nationally, thousands of Australian lives are being lost each year to pharmaceutical overdoses has been described as a national catastrophe.

Every year, on 7 April, the World Health Organization (WHO) sponsors what it calls ‘World Health Day’. Promoting it as a ‘global health awareness’ day, the supposed goal is to draw worldwide attention to subjects of major importance to global health. And yet, despite all the time and money the WHO spends on this campaign each year, it achieves no meaningful results. Today, a full 66 years after the campaign was first launched in 1950, deaths from heart disease and cancer continue in their millions and the drug industry’s profits continue to skyrocket.

A new study carried out by British researchers has shown that high levels of vitamin C may be protective against the progression of cataracts. Published in the Ophthalmology journal by scientists at King’s College, London, the study followed the development of cataracts in the eyes of 324 pairs of female twins over a period of 10 years. It found that participants with higher intakes of vitamin C were associated with a 33 percent reduction in the risk of cataract progression and had 'clearer' lenses than those who consumed lower levels.

A new meta-analysis published in the Translational Psychiatry medical journal has found that omega-3 fatty acids can reduce symptoms of major depressive disorder. Examining 13 randomized placebo-controlled trials involving 1,233 participants suffering from the condition, the researchers noted that higher doses of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) were especially beneficial. With awareness growing of the important roles played by omega-3 fatty acids in the control and prevention of a wide range of diseases, the study provides further evidence that ensuring an optimum supply of these essential micronutrients can enhance and protect our health.

On 9 March, in the Najwyższy Czas bi-weekly news magazine, the Dr. Rath Health Foundation published an analysis of the current political situation in Poland and Europe. Describing how democracy in Poland is being threatened by the dictatorial Brussels EU, the analysis was simultaneously published on social media and quickly reached people all around the country. Based on the reactions and comments it generated, the information contained in the analysis also has important implications for the people of the UK, who, on 23 June, are holding a referendum on whether their country should remain a member of the Brussels EU construct.

In a little-reported statement given on March 1st at the influential London School of Economics in the UK, Lord Mervyn King, the former Governor of the Bank of England, confirmed that the financial crisis afflicting Europe since 2009 is essentially the result of a “deliberate” act of policy. Highly critical of the destructive economic strategies of the Brussels EU, he predicted that, in order to free its weakest member countries from the strangulating combination of austerity measures and high unemployment they are suffering from, the euro currency zone will have to be dismantled.

The World Health Organization – the WHO – has proclaimed February 4 as world cancer day in order to promote worldwide awareness for one of the big unresolved problems of mankind – the epidemic of cancer. While every effort to create worldwide awareness about the need to end this epidemic should be applauded, there are serious doubts that the World Health Organization is able to help accomplish this goal. Why? Today, almost one third of the money financing the WHO’s operations comes from multinational pharmaceutical companies. As ‘return’ for this ‘investment’ into the WHO, the drug industry expects a huge ‘return on their investments’ from this world body. Thus, the WHO is no longer independent but its programs and activities – including ‘world cancer day’ – essentially turn into marketing campaigns for patented chemical drugs.

A recent medical trial in France has left one person dead, three others with possibly irreversible brain damage, and a grim reminder of the dangers of drugs. The study, carried out by Biotrial, a pharmaceutical research firm, was using healthy volunteers to determine the maximum tolerability of an experimental painkiller manufactured by Bial, a Portuguese drug maker. In return for their taking part in the two-week test, the volunteers are said to have each been paid a fee of 1,900 euros (US $2,070). With two more men also said to have been hospitalized, and all six participants having taken the drug at the highest dosage used in the trial, the outcome has been described as the worst tragedy of its kind to have taken place in France.

A recent study claims that many more people should be taking “intensive blood pressure-lowering” drugs to reduce their risk of heart attacks and strokes. Published in The Lancet medical journal in the form of a meta-analysis of 19 trials, the paper essentially asserts that all people deemed to be at risk should be given drug medication – even if their current blood pressure level is normal and irrespective of the danger of severe side-effects. Significantly, however, in its promotion of the study, the mass media failed to draw attention to the fact that half of the researchers who carried it out had connections to multinational drug companies or pro-pharmaceutical research interests.

The central core of the work of our Foundation involves fighting to improve human health, with the ultimate goal of saving millions of lives. In this respect, any improvement in human health has to start with science. This year, in the field of cardiovascular research, I am pleased to report that we have moved forward scientifically in a very significant way. Building on work I began over a quarter of a century ago, we have reached a point in history where the stage is now set for the dream of abolishing heart disease as a cause of human mortality to become a reality.

In George Orwell’s classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, Winston Smith, the main character, defines freedom as being the right to say that two plus two makes four. “If that is granted,” he says, “all else follows.” In a notable parallel to Orwell’s observation regarding the nature of totalitarian regimes, government restrictions on our right to communicate the scientific facts about natural therapies impose senselessly strict limits on what we can and cannot say. But when, eventually, we reach the point that these constraints on our freedom of speech no longer exist, so far as our goal of Health for All is concerned all else will inevitably follow.

In a welcome development, we were recently pleased to learn that the German Protestant Church has begun promoting vitamin-rich nutrition for the developing world. Previously better known for its advocacy of toxic antiretroviral (ARV) drugs for HIV and AIDS in poor countries, the church’s ‘Bread for the World’ campaign is calling for an end to undernourishment and malnutrition. Significantly, its public recognition of the important roles micronutrients can play in the prevention of diseases came only two months after the recent annual conference of the Dr. Rath Health Alliance in Koblenz, Germany. At that meeting we notably reported on the latest progress of the Movement of Life’s ‘End Heart Disease: Plant a Fruit Tree’ campaign, with particular reference to its relevance in the developing world, as well as the roles of vitamin C and other micronutrients in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

An eye-opening report in The Times of India recently described how 75 percent of the Indian population are believed to be deficient in several key vitamins. Summarizing a study carried out across four different areas of India, the article explained how alarming levels of vitamin deficiency have shown up among the country’s population. Notably, therefore, in an unexpected parallel, an award-winning analysis of the American population has found that not only do large portions of people in the United States have too low an intake of micronutrients, they are not even obtaining sufficient amounts when using dietary supplements. As such, with the primary cause of today’s most common chronic diseases now known to be an inadequate supply to our bodies of essential micronutrients, taken together these two studies confirm that micronutrient deficiency is a global problem that requires a globally sustainable solution.

A new study conducted in the United States has shown that switching from conventionally grown fruits and vegetables to produce grown organically, even just for a few days, significantly reduces the levels of pesticides in children's bodies. Examining 40 children between 3 and 6 years of age, researchers from the Center for Environmental Research and Children's Health at UC Berkeley found that an organic diet quickly lowered their levels of several pesticides by between one-quarter and one-half. Consistent with other research reporting similar findings, the study is the latest in a long line of scientific investigations confirming the health benefits of organic food.

The reputation and credibility of the pharma industry sank to a new low this week with news that the price of Daraprim (Pyrimethamine), an anti-parasitic drug that is on the World Health Organization’s list of essential medicines, had been raised from $13.50 to $750 per tablet. Marketed since the 1950s, the drug was acquired last month by Turing Pharmaceuticals, a start-up company run by Martin Shkreli, a former hedge fund manager. Astonishingly, with even the global mass media seemingly aghast at this latest case of pharma greed, Shkreli shamelessly attempted to portray the 5000% price rise as “altruistic”.

Wednesday 15 July saw the official launch of our End Heart Disease: Plant a Fruit Tree campaign. A Movement of Life global project coordinated by the Dr. Rath Health Foundation, its aim is to educate people how heart disease is caused by a long term lack of vitamin C. The inspiration for the campaign is Dr. Matthias Rath’s scientific discovery about the development of heart disease, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States in 1990, and the inverse relationship between its incidence and our intake of vitamin C. Following the recent release, by scientists at the Dr. Rath Research Institute, of scientific proof that atherosclerosis is an early form of the vitamin C deficiency disease scurvy, it is clear that the elimination of heart disease as a cause of human mortality is now possible.

Barely a week goes by these days without a media headline telling us that antibiotic resistant “superbugs” have become one of the world’s most pressing health concerns. Declaring that we stand on the threshold of the post-antibiotic era, such news stories try to frighten us into believing that, by the middle of this century, superbugs could be killing millions of people every year. Notably, however, whenever the question is raised as to what alternative approaches might be available for controlling infections, no mention whatsoever is made of the key roles played by essential micronutrients in the proper functioning of the immune system.

Scurvy (also known as the “Sailors’ Disease”) is a condition resulting from a complete bodily depletion of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). It is a fatal disease characterized by a slow dissolution of connective tissue throughout the body, including the walls of the blood vessels. This disease was quite common in earlier centuries, especially among sailors whose diets were deprived of vitamin C. During long voyages at sea many sailors died within months from tremendous blood loss. Today, fully developed scurvy is rare; however, subclinical scurvy is very common especially in the elderly, infants, children on special diets and people with poor dietary habits.

Heart attacks and strokes have consistently remained the leading causes of death. Atherosclerosis, the underlying cause of these diseases, results in 17 million deaths worldwide each year. Yet, high blood cholesterol levels, a fatty diet and obesity have been blamed as the causes of heart disease. However, cutting down dietary fat and the artificial reduction of blood cholesterol with cholesterol-reducing medicines have not been successful in addressing this issue. Atherosclerotic plaques occur primarily in the coronary arteries rather than in the entire 60,000-mile-long vascular system. The absence of plaque in the veins, and the fact that animals do not suffer from atherosclerosis while humans do, cannot be explained by conventional medicine and the cholesterol theory of heart disease.

In the never-ending race to attract public attention (and better ratings), the media will use any opportunity to bring ‘exciting’ news – but without considering its truthfulness or far-reaching consequences.

The most recent example of such media hype relates to the publication of a scientific study in January 2015, which concluded that cancer is no more than ‘bad luck’.

Taking into account the public health consequences of spreading such nihilistic views based on inadequate data, we feel that this topic needs to be addressed in a wider context.
