Long-term oral contraceptive users are twice
as likely to have serious eye disease

November 18, 2013

Research presented today, at the 117th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in New Orleans, has found that women who have taken oral contraceptives for three or more years are twice as likely to suffer from glaucoma, one of the leading causes of blindness which affects nearly 60 million worldwide.

Comment: Long-term intake of estrogen and other hormones – either as hormonal contraception or as replacement therapy during menopause – is well known to cause a depletion of vitamins and other essential cellular nutrients in the body. This is the reason why women taking contraceptives also have an increased risk for heart attacks, strokes and other forms of cardiovascular disease. In fact, this has been known since as long ago as 1972 when a study published in the scientific journal Nature reported that women taking hormonal contraceptives had significantly lower vitamin C blood levels than normal. November 15, 2013

In the latest imbroglio over prescription painkillers, the city of Chicago has filed a petition accusing Johnson & Johnson and its Janssen unit of deceptive marketing of two medicines – the Duragesic patch and Nucynta tablet – and wants the drugmaker to relinquish six years' worth of documents, Crain's Chicago Business writes.

FDA says new cholesterol drugs may not need outcome studies

November 14, 2013

Members of an experimental class of cholesterol-lowering drugs could get U.S. regulatory approval based on their ability to lower "bad" cholesterol, and may not need to show that they reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, the Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday.

Comment: After 25 years of duping mankind with the cholesterol fallacy, most patents on statins have now either expired or are about to. So the Pharma Cartel and its stakeholders in medicine are preparing to drum up the continuation of this fraud for yet another quarter of a century. Yet again, therefore, in a further continuation of the 'business with disease', the predictable side-effects will create still new drug markets for the additional diseases that will inevitably result from this reckless profit-seeking madness.

Don't Give More Patients Statins

November 13, 2013

On Tuesday, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology issued new cholesterol guidelines that essentially declared, in one fell swoop, that millions of healthy Americans should immediately start taking pills — namely statins — for undefined health "benefits." This announcement is not a result of a sudden epidemic of heart disease, nor is it based on new data showing the benefits of lower cholesterol. Instead, it is a consequence of simply expanding the definition of who should take the drugs — a decision that will benefit the pharmaceutical industry more than anyone else.

Comment: Unknown to the millions of Americans who are about to be advised by their doctors that they need to start taking statins, the real reason these so-called 'guidelines' have been implemented is that a few years ago the pharma industry attempted, but failed, to have statins declared as 'over-the-counter' drugs. Significantly, therefore, of the 15 panelists that authored the new guidelines, six reported having recent or current ties to drugmakers that already sell or are developing cholesterol medications. NSAID Painkillers Found To Deplete Vitamin B-6 Levels

November 11, 2013

New research has determined that COX-inhibitors, which include numerous NSAIDs – Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – reduce Vitamin B-6 levels within the body.

Comment: One of the biggest secrets in the drug industry is that pharmaceutical drugs deplete the body of vitamins, minerals and other essential micronutrients. Particularly notably, a book published in 1999 by pharmacist and clinical nutritionist Ross Pelton PhD cited 459 published studies on this subject and identified around 150 classes of drugs that cause nutrient depletion.

The real point of GM food is corporate control of farming

November 1, 2013

The claims made for GM agriculture are a transparent fraud. The real purpose of GM foods is to give giant corporations legally-enforceable monopoly powers over the entire global food chain.

BASF Sues EU Commission
for Restricting Pesticides Harmful to Bees

November 12, 2013

On November 6 BASF, a German agrochemical company, took legal action in the General Court of the European Union (EU) to challenge the EU Commission's decision to restrict seed treatment uses of the insecticide fipronil. BASF joins chemical companies Bayer and Syngenta in challenging the EU's decision to restrict the use of certain pesticides that are harmful to pollinators.

Comment: With evidence growing that pesticides may be an important factor in the mysterious malady known as colony collapse disorder that kills honeybees en masse, BASF's legal action – along with those of Syngenta and Bayer – arguably adds still further to the chemical industry's dark history of placing profit over life.

General Elections in India: The Choice is "Globalization"
or "More Globalization". The Role of the Wall Street Lobby

November 13, 2013

2014 will witness India's general election. And the choice available from the two biggest national parties seems to be more globalisation or more globalisation. In other words, continued acquiescence to Wall Street's economic agenda. Globalisation, the type we are witnessing, reflects the needs of the extremely wealthy of the world. They are ultimately setting the agenda at the G8, G20, NATO, the World Bank, and the WTO and are from the highest levels of finance capital and transnational corporations. They dictate global economic policies.

Wealth of World's Billionaires Doubles Since 2009

November 11, 2013

Even as workers in the US and other countries have seen their incomes plummet, the combined net worth of the world's billionaires has doubled since 2009, according to a report published Tuesday by UBS and Wealth-X, a consultancy that tracks super-rich individuals. The collective wealth of the world's billionaires hit $6.5 trillion, a figure that is nearly as large as the gross domestic product of China, the world's second-largest economy. The number of billionaires has grown to 2,170 in 2013, up from 1,360 in 2009, according to the report.
