Men who ate the fruits along with other foods rich in flavonoids were found to be 40 per cent less likely to develop the brain disease. And those who ate berries at least once a week could cut their risk of developing the disease by a quarter compared with those who never ate them, the study by British and U.S. experts also found.

EMA Committee Chair Suddenly Resigns
The fallout from the Mediator scandal continues. The chair of the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, which approves new drugs, unexpectedly resigned yesterday. And an EMA spokesman tells us the departure was linked to his role as a scientific advisor to the French healthcare regulator, Agence Francaise de Securite Sanitaire des Produits de Sante, or AFSSAPS.

Comment: Despite warnings dating back as early as 1998, a deadly pharmaceutical drug, Mediator, was prescribed to 5 million French people. Successive French health ministers ignored scientific advice that the drug – produced by the French pharmaceutical giant, Servier, a company well known for its cult of secrecy and close relations with French politicians – was at best useless, and at worst highly dangerous. Notably, therefore, it emerged that French President Nicolas Sarkozy – who, in 2004, coerced the marriage between French pharmaceutical dwarf Sanofi and Swiss/German drug giant Aventis/Hoechst – previously worked for Servier as a lawyer. Now suspected to have killed up to 2,000 people, serious questions as to how Mediator was officially approved, and subsidized for 33 years by the French health service, remain unanswered.

Whistleblower now reluctant biotech safety spokeswoman
Former Pfizer Inc. molecular biologist Becky McClain calls herself a "reluctant activist" now that she has become a national spokeswoman for biotech safety after winning a $1.37 million judgment two years ago against her former employer. "I'm a scientist," the Deep River resident said. "I'm not schooled in public speaking." But McClain, who won a jury award on April 1, 2010, against Pfizer after being fired following a series of safety complaints and what she says was exposure to a novel virus at the pharmaceutical giant's Groton laboratories, has been taking speaking engagements around the country to inform the public about the dangers of unregulated biotech laboratories.

Poland Announces Complete Ban on Monsanto’s Genetically Modified Maize
Following the anti-Monsanto activism launched by nations like France and Hungary, Poland has announced that it will launch a complete ban on growing Monsanto’s genetically modified strain MON810. The announcement, made by Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki, sets yet another international standard against Monsanto’s genetically modified creations. In addition to being linked to a plethora health ailments, Sawicki says that the pollen originating from this GM strain may actually be devastating the already dwindling bee population.

Supplement use predicts folate status in Canadian women
Researchers have gained new insight into why 22% of Canadian women of childbearing age are still not achieving a folate concentration considered optimal for reducing the risk of having babies with neural tube defects, despite a virtual absence of folate deficiency in the general Canadian population. When the authors examined a nation-wide study, they found a main reason why some women are not achieving levels optimal for reducing risk is many do not take the supplemental folic acid recommended for this population.

Researchers link dental x-rays to brain tumours
Frequent dental X-rays may significantly increase the risk of non-malignant brain tumours, say researchers. Over a lifetime, having dental X-rays can double or triple the chances of developing meningioma tumours, a study has found. The tumours grow in the outer membrane covering the brain.

Czech president on French TV: Euro is disastrous project
The single European currency is a disaster and a wrong project, Czech President Vaclav Klaus told French television channel France 24 during his visit to Paris on Monday. The interview will be broadcast on Friday. There is not any debate on joining the euro zone in the Czech Republic and there is no timetable for it either, Klaus said. Klaus said the Czech government had rejected the EU fiscal pact because it would pass the control over the budget to Brussels.

Austerity suicide: Greek pensioner shoots himself in Athens
A cash-strapped Greek pensioner who said he feared having to “scrounge for food” shot himself dead in Athens’ main square in the latest in a series of suicides and attempted suicides triggered by European austerity measures.

Comment: The failing euro currency that gave rise to the so-called “austerity measures” in Greece fulfils only one function; namely, to enslave millions of Europeans to economic dictatorship under the Brussels EU. The politicians responsible for this mass enslavement are puppets of the multi billion-dollar fraudulent pharma “business with disease” and have been sucking dry countries such as Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Ireland for decades. Moreover, they helped cause the financial crisis in the first place. In this situation, the people of Greece and the other eurozone countries must demand that their politicians break the enslaving chains of the euro and re-introduce their own national currencies as a matter of priority. Each day longer that they go on being blackmailed by the Brussels EU Commissioners becomes another obstacle on their road to independence, financial recovery and social peace for both them and their children.

Ireland revolts against new household tax
The Irish government was mulling Monday its response to a rare revolt against its austerity programme after it emerged that half the population had failed to pay a new tax on households. Just over 800,000 of an estimated 1.6 million liable households registered by the weekend deadline to pay the 100-euro ($133) levy after a high-profile boycott campaign, which struck a chord with the population after years of belt-tightening. The charge is an interim measure until a property tax is introduced next year, one of the requirements of an 85-billion-euro bailout agreed with the European Union and International Monetary Fund in November 2010.

Comment: With the people of Ireland now rebelling against their enslavement under the Brussels EU and the International Monetary Fund, the pressure on the country’s politicians is rising. As Dr. Rath explained in his recent speech at the Cancer Free World conference in Berlin, the people of Europe should not trust any politician who promises freedom from economic pressures but subjects them to conditions imposed by the Brussels EU. Far from preserving the dignity of their countries, and initiating financial recovery, the exact opposite will be the case as, when such politicians speak of “prosperity,” they do not mean general prosperity but the profits of the chemical, pharmaceutical and oil cartels and the banks.
