Heart-damaging side effects of cancer drugs under-reported in studies
The under-reporting of the possible side effects of heart damage from cancer drugs puts patients at an increased risk for heart failure, according to two researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Comment: The patented chemical drugs used in the orthodox treatment of cancer kill body cells indiscriminately and cause severe side effects in patients. This is in sharp contrast to vitamin C which, in a study published in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America in September 2005, has been confirmed by scientists at the US National Institutes of Health to kill cancer cells selectively. In this respect, the work of these US government scientists confirms the cancer discoveries of Dr. Rath and his research team who, over three years earlier, had presented their findings at the 19th Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference in Florida and published details of their scientific breakthrough in USA Today. A Bizarre Outcome on Generic Drugs
Dozens of suits against drug companies have been dismissed in federal and state courts because of a decision by the Supreme Court last year that makes it virtually impossible to sue generic manufacturers for failing to provide adequate warning of a prescription drugs dangers. This outrageous denial of a patients right to recover fair damages makes it imperative that Congress or the Food and Drug Administration fashion a remedy.

GSK confirms $800 million UK manufacturing investment
GlaxoSmithKline, Britain's biggest drugmaker, confirmed plans on Thursday to invest more than 500 million pounds ($792 million) in manufacturing in Britain as it selected a north of England location for a previously announced biotech plant. The news - though expected - is a boost for Prime Minister David Cameron, who has made wooing the pharmaceuticals industry a priority in the wake of Pfizer's 2011 decision to shutter its giant research centre in Sandwich, southern England.

Comment: Given that Cameron has already dictatorially ruled out a referendum on Britains membership of the Brussels EU despite the fact that a majority of the countrys voters want a vote on this undemocratic construct this latest development makes it overwhelmingly clear where his ultimate loyalties now lie. Big Pharma's shame: emerging markets bribery
In recent years, Big Pharma has forked out billions of dollars to settle scandals involving improper promotion of medicines in the United States. Now bribes paid to foreign doctors and other state employees are shaping up as the next major legal liability threat for the industry. A Reuters examination of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings by the world's top 10 drug companies has found that eight of them recently warned of potential costs related to charges of corruption in overseas markets.

GMO News

‘Confined’ field releases of Eucalyptus neither confined nor safe
An application from ArborGen has taken a sinister turn in declaring most, if not all of the genetically modified (GM) constructs in a Eucalyptus hybrid clone to be tested in environmental release Confidential Business information, thereby precluding any meaningful independent safety and environmental assessment of the GM trees, or appropriate remedial action and identification in case of harm caused to the environment and innocent bystanders. The USDA/ APHIS (United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) has yet again made a highly flawed Environmental Assessment (EA) on the proposed release, dismissing every issue on safety largely on a priori assumptions and in the absence of real data.

Independence of EFSAs GMO risk assessment challenged
Complaint filed with the EU Ombudsman
Testbiotech, supported by Corporate Observatory Europe (CEO), is today filing a new complaint with the EU Ombudsman questioning the independence of the chair of the panel of experts tasked with assessing the risk of new genetically engineered plants entering the European Union. Harry Kuiper has chaired the GMO Panel at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) since 2003 but has also maintained strong ties with International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) including taking part in a task force led by a Monsanto employee. ILSI is funded by the food and agrochemical industry and Kuipers work on the task force was alongside staff from Bayer, Dow AgroSciences, Dupont and Syngenta, all of which produce genetically engineered plants.

EU needs common policy on iodised salt to battle deficiencies: Study
A common European Union policy which requires the food industry to use iodised salt is needed to tackle the issue of deficiencies, say authors of a study that found 44% of Europeans are deficient in the nutrient.
Read article at nutraingredients.com

Comment: Research showing that vitamin and mineral deficiencies are widespread in the Brussels EU has been growing for some years now. As long ago as 1997, for example, a report by the Brussels EU Commission into nutrient intake in Europe concluded that "for almost all vitamins, minerals and trace elements, there exist one or more population groups with intakes below nationally recommended levels." The fact that the Brussels EU has essentially continued to ignore these findings provides still further evidence that its goal is to prevent people from learning why a chronic deficiency of micronutrients is the most frequent cause of today's most common diseases and, through so doing, protect the global pharmaceutical industry the Pharma Cartel and its multi-trillion dollar Business with Disease.

Activist Outrage Causes Major Supermarkets to Drop 'Pink Slime' Meat
We have been reporting on the staggering amount of "pink slime" used in the U.S. food industry over the last few months. Pink slime is a meat filler made from "ammoniated boneless lean beef trimmings or similar products, which are considered unfit for human consumption until ammonia has been added.” In early March, it was reported by ABC that a shocking 70% of ground beef at supermarkets contained this pink slime. Since this disgusting food additive has been exposed, natural health activists rallied to demand its removal from McDonald's and school lunches. Now major grocery chains are falling to the pressure of activism.

Political News

Irish Euro-referendum set for 31 May
Two-and-a-half years ago, in the run-up to the second Lisbon referendum, every mainstream Irish politician was promising that a 'Yes' vote would lead to recovery (alright every politician except this one, whose poster deserves a Nostradamus award for prophetic accuracy). Now listen to them today. A vote for the Treaty, says the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, is a vote for 'job opportunities and the growth agenda'. 'This is about ensuring long-term stability, recovery, growth and jobs,' says his Tnaiste, Eamon Gilmore. Sound familiar?
Read blog entry by Daniel Hannan MEP on the Daily Telegraph website (UK)

Comment: In October 2009, the people of Ireland voted - for the second time in less than eighteen months - on the so-called ‘Lisbon Treaty’. Previously, in June 2008, the Irish people had voted a decisive ‘No’ to this undemocratic treaty, thus mirroring the decisions of the French and Dutch electorates who had voted against the EU Constitution - with which the Lisbon Treaty shares 96 percent of its content - in 2005. In the October 2009 vote, however, following unlawful political interference from the Brussels EU Commission; widespread threats and lies to the Irish electorate; corporate interference from drug company Pfizer; and, not least of all, the blatant sweeping away of Ireland’s guidelines on media impartiality, the Irish people were deliberately misled by their politicians into believing that voting ‘Yes’ would ensure an economic recovery in their country. This time around, in the run-up to Ireland’s 31 May vote on the Brussels EU’s Fiscal Union Treaty, there can be little doubt that the threats and propaganda to vote ‘Yes’ will be no less intense.
