Diabetes drug with heart attack link 'should never have been issued'
'British Medical Journal' says Avandia should be withdrawn from the UK market.
One of the world's biggest-selling drugs for diabetes should never have been licensed and should now be withdrawn, says the British Medical Journal. It says its investigation into concerns about the drug, Avandia, made by British multinational GlaxoSmithKline, which has been linked with increased heart attacks, are too great to allow its continued use. The BMJ claims that the UK drug regulator, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority, was advised by the Commission on Human Medicines to withdraw the drug last July, but it remains on the market because the European Medicines Agency, which licenses drugs across Europe, has yet to reach a decision on Avandia, whose chemical name is rosiglitazone.

Half Of Americans Are Taking Prescription Meds
More than 48 percent of all Americans took at least one prescription drug each month in 2008, which amounts to a 10 percent increase over the previous decade, according to a new report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. America’s mental illness epidemic: It turns out that the drugs are the problem
Tens of millions of innocent, unsuspecting Americans, who are mired deeply in the mental “health” system, have actually been made crazy by the use of or the withdrawal from commonly-prescribed, brain-altering, brain-disabling, indeed brain-damaging psychiatric drugs that have been, for many decades, cavalierly handed out like candy -- often in untested and therefore unapproved combinations of drugs -- to trusting and unaware patients by equally unaware but well-intentioned physicians who have been under the mesmerizing influence of slick and obscenely profitable psychopharmaceutical drug companies, a.k.a. BigPharma.

Genetically Manipulated Crops: The GMO Catastrophe in the USA. A Lesson for the World
Recently the unelected potentates of the EU Commission in Brussels have sought to override what has repeatedly been shown to be the overwhelming opposition of the European Union population to the spread of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) in EU agriculture. EU Commission President now has a Maltese accountant as health and enviromnent Commissioner to rubber stamp the adoption of GMO. The former EU Environment Commissioner from Greece was a ferocious GMO opponent. As well, the Chinese government has indicated it may approve a variety of GMO rice. Before things get too far along, they would do well to take a closer look at the world GMO test lab, the USA. There GMO crops are anything but beneficial. Just the opposite.
Read article by F. William Engdahl on the Centre for Research for Globalization website (Canada)
Comment: As Engdahl’s article describes, years of constant application of patented glyphosate herbicides has resulted in new herbicide-resistant “super-weeds.” These new weeds are apparently so robust that harvester combines are unable to harvest the fields and hand tools break trying to cut them down. One variety, palmer pigweed, can reportedly grow up to 2.4 meters high and withstand severe heat and prolonged droughts. This is the grim reality behind patented GM crops that government agencies and their friends in the multi-billion dollar biotech industry are desperately trying to cover up.

The berry healthiest: How organic strawberries 'are more nutritious'
Organic strawberries may cost more, but it's a price worth paying, scientists say. The fruit is both tastier and better for your health, research shows. The most detailed study of its kind has found that they contain higher levels of anti-cancer nutrients than fruit sprayed with chemical pesticides. Naturally-produced strawberries also have a longer shelf life and a richer, more fruity flavour, according to the researchers. Their findings add to a growing body of evidence that organic food is healthier than conventional fruit and vegetables.

Botanical groups gather in Brussels to challenge EU herb laws
The European Benefyt Foundation and the Alliance for Natural Health International (ANH-Intl) are set to mount a legal challenge in the European Court of Justice against EU herb laws, after meeting in Brussels this week. The groups believe the 2004 Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) is damaging the botanicals sector, particularly Chinese and Indian herbal products that do not possess the kind of scientific backing the legislation requires for authorisation.

Common Sense Saves Life Says Health Freedom New Zealand
Health Freedom New Zealand would like to congratulate the Dairy Farming family featured on TV3’s 60 minutes last night for insisting that their family member, Allan Smith, be treated with intravenous Vitamin C therapy - rather than accepting the medical fraternities decision to turn off his life support and let him die. "Having been cured from Leukemia using natural products and high dose Vitamin C myself", says spokeswoman Nicola Grace, "I am excited that finally the truth is coming out about natural cures for infectious diseases and cancer. Now that this simple, cheap and effective treatment is implicated in the spontaneous remission of what a team of specialists were convinced was a terminally fatal case of swine flu, as well as hairy cell leukaemia, it would be negligent to ignore and criminal to deny high dose intravenous Vitamin C for future swine flu and/or hairy cell leukaemia admissions" she states. When the hospital interfered with the treatment, both by under-dosing and by withholding it altogether, they were unwittingly providing scientific evidence of the effectiveness of high dose intravenous Vitamin C therapy.

Comment: Allan Smith, a New Zealand Dairy Farmer, was referred to Auckland Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit when he was found to have contracted H1N1 Swine flu. He was put on 20 days ECMO life support but his condition kept deteriorating and he was additionally diagnosed as having leukaemia. At this point, his family were told he could not possibly survive. Smith’s doctors therefore wanted to remove him from life support and claimed that his death was inevitable. Undeterred, his family demanded that the doctors administer high doses of Vitamin C intravenously. Despite the doctors’ strong opposition to administering this treatment and their apparent intention to let the patient die, the family eventually won their battle and, to cut a long story short, Smith made a complete recovery. Former EU commissioner 'in clear breach of code of conduct'
The European commission's ethical committee will be asked to rule on claims that the institution's former vice president Günter Verheugen is guilty of a conflict of interest. The case concerns the German official's decision to launch a lobbying consultancy, "the European Experience company", after he left his EU post. Friends of the Earth Europe say that his new role is a "clear breach" of the rules set up by the code of conduct for EU commissioners. It says he failed to notify the commission of the new company as former commissioners are required to do when they leave office.
