Mother on a mission to find cure for motor neurone disease after five members of her family die from it

NEWS

A family from Wales has lost five family members to the muscle-wasting condition known as motor neurone disease.

COMMENT

Also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and, in the United States, Lou Gehrig’s disease, motor neurone disease is a degenerative condition affecting particular cells in the brain and spinal cord which control the body’s muscles. With orthodox drug-based medicine having no cure or means of controlling this disease, sufferers generally die within five years of the onset of symptoms.

Promisingly, however, scientific studies show that nutrients such as vitamin E, vitamin D, coenzyme Q10, vitamin C, vitamin B12, folic acid, omega-3 fatty acids, and others are helpful in preventing and controlling motor neurone disease. There is even some evidence that a regime including supplements such as alpha-lipoic acid, selenium, vitamins and others, along with a vegetarian diet, can bring about a complete recovery. To learn more, visit the website of the Independent Library of Nutrition and Natural Health.

Coenzyme Q10 could prevent, alleviate pre-diabetes

NEWS

Restoring levels of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ), a key molecule in energy production in cells, could overcome insulin resistance or pre-diabetes – a precursor to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

COMMENT

Scientific studies have clearly proven the roles of essential micronutrients in preventing and controlling diabetes. For the most effective results, however, it is not any one single micronutrient that is needed, but carefully chosen synergistic combinations.

Research conducted at the Dr. Rath Research Institute has documented the particular value of vitamin C, vitamin E, certain B vitamins, chromium, and other micronutrients in helping to normalize a diabetic metabolism and prevent cardiovascular disease. You can read about this lifesaving research in the Cellular Health section of our website.

The pharmaceutical industry is no stranger to fake news

NEWS

Accusations of “fake news” are all the rage now, with people often throwing around the term when they read an article that tells them something they don’t want to hear. But an entire industry called “product defense,” created years ago by the tobacco industry, uses falsehoods and misdirection to protect companies from bad media and regulatory scrutiny. The pharmaceutical industry is no stranger to these tactics.

COMMENT

If you stop to think about it, nowhere does the issue of truthful reporting have a greater impact on our lives and wellbeing than it does in the field of medicine. By hiding the truth about health with lies about drugs, the pharmaceutical industry is undoubtedly one of the biggest and most persistent providers of fake news across the entire world.

During the past century, the pharmaceutical industry has spent vast sums of marketing money promoting the idea that its products are scientifically proven. So successful has it been in implanting this impression into the public consciousness that generations of doctors and patients have lived their entire lives believing the primary motivation for drug companies is improving human health. Not only is this belief demonstrably untrue, but the studies carried out to supposedly prove the efficacy of the pharmaceutical industry’s products are habitually rigged.

To learn about some of the key ways in which we are being misled by the pharmaceutical industry, read this article on our Foundation website.

London reaches legal air pollution limit just one month into the new year

NEWS

Air pollution in London has reached the legal limit for the whole of 2018 less than a month into the year.

COMMENT

Intriguingly, a study published in 2017 found that high-dose B vitamins may “completely offset” the damage caused by the most dangerous type of air pollution. Published in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) journal, the researchers showed that exposure to fine particulate matter of the type produced by burning fossil fuels in motor vehicles can be mitigated by a daily supplement of B vitamins. With such pollution being known to have significant adverse effects on human health, the finding has profound implications for public health policies worldwide.

Ibuprofen taken in early pregnancy could affect female offspring's fertility

NEWS

Painkiller taken by mother in first three months of pregnancy could potentially reduce daughter’s number of eggs, say researchers.

COMMENT

This study comes hot on the heels of another recent study looking at ibuprofen, which found that men taking high doses over a long period of time may increase their risk of fertility problems. A particularly dangerous painkiller, ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were also shown in 2017 to increase the risk of cardiovascular problems. In a paper published in the British Medical Journal, researchers discovered that taking any dose of NSAIDs for one week, one month, or more than a month was associated with a raised likelihood of suffering a heart attack.

Ultimately, these findings provide us with a good reminder of why we need to redouble our efforts to make natural preventive health a human right. The current global healthcare system has clearly failed to eradicate chronic diseases and achieve Health for All. The sooner more people understand this, the sooner we can build a new system based on nutritional and Cellular Medicine approaches – and save millions of lives.

New study reveals long-term effects of chronic Lyme Disease

NEWS

There's new evidence that shows that for some people, Lyme Disease could have long-lasting effects such as fatigue, pain, insomnia, and depression.

COMMENT

There is a common perception that patients treated with antibiotics in the early stages of Lyme disease recover rapidly and completely, and that the later disease stages can also be treated effectively, although recovery is slower. However, in reality, approximately 10-20 percent (and even up to 50 percent) of the patients who follow appropriate antibiotic treatment may face significant, persistent or recurrent symptoms of Lyme disease such as joint and/or muscle aches/pains and fatigue. These symptoms can last for many months or even years, lowering the patient’s quality of life and making subsequent treatment more difficult. Long-term antibiotic treatments are often associated with serious side effects and, as a result, are not recommended by many physicians. Clearly, therefore, they are not the answer to Lyme Disease.

To learn about the Lyme Disease research carried out by scientists at the Dr. Rath Research institute, and how certain micronutrients have the potential to become important tools in the fight against this disabling condition, read this article on our Foundation website.

Nearly half of Americans take a supplement during flu outbreak, survey finds

NEWS

A new survey of 1,035 adults revealed that 60% are extremely concerned about contracting a new or particularly resilient strain of flu this year, and 47% take vitamin C or a preventative supplement as a precaution.

COMMENT

As popular as vitamin C increasingly seems to be these days, achieving optimum protection against flu involves a lot more than just taking this one single nutrient alone. Studies carried out at the Dr. Rath Research Institute have documented that combining vitamin C with micronutrients such as lysine, proline, green tea extract, and N-Acetylcysteine works much more effectively than using it by itself. Taken in combination, these nutrients can target multiple mechanisms associated with flu infection. Impressively, they can inhibit the multiplication of human flu viruses by up to 82 percent and reduce the infection of new cells by 70 percent. They can also impair enzymatic destruction of the body's connective tissue, which acts as a natural barrier against the spread of viruses.

More than 100 million Americans have high blood pressure

NEWS

The number of Americans at risk for heart attacks and strokes just got a lot higher. An estimated 103 million U.S. adults have high blood pressure, according to new statistics from the American Heart Association. That's nearly half of all adults in the United States.

COMMENT

The sudden rise in the number of Americans categorized as having high blood pressure is simply due to the fact that, in November 2017, the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and other groups redefined it as a reading of 130 over 80. Previously, they had relied on a reading of 140 over 90. With this diagnostic change, the proportion of U.S. adults considered to have the condition rose from 32 percent to 46 percent. As a result, the pharmaceutical industry, for whom these groups are a key stakeholder, stands to make billions more dollars of profit from the sale of toxic chemical drugs.

Breast cancer treatments may increase the risk of heart disease

NEWS

Breast cancer patients may be at an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases including heart failure, according to a new scientific statement from the American Heart Association published in its journal Circulation.

COMMENT

In a graphic illustration of just how toxic chemotherapy drugs are, research published in 2016 found that, in some UK hospitals, they are killing up to 50 percent of patients within 30 days of starting treatment. Using data from a full 12-month period in 2014, the study included 23,228 patients with breast cancer and 9,634 patients with non-small cell lung cancer, all of whom were 24 years of age or older. While death rates varied across different regions of the UK, the study clearly showed that chemotherapy, as opposed to the cancer itself, was killing hundreds of patients within 30 days of treatment commencing.

Fortunately, however, with each passing day, more and more cancer patients are learning about the safe and effective Cellular Medicine approach to cancer. Empowered through realizing that a cancer-free world is possible, they are turning their backs on toxic chemotherapy and taking their own decisions about what is best for their health. If enough of us become active in sharing the facts about natural cancer treatment as widely as possible, needless suffering and deaths from chemotherapy can be avoided and, as a result, millions of lives saved.

The world’s highest drug levels in water are believed to occur in India, where 21 different active pharmaceutical ingredients – at 150 times the highest levels detected in the U.S. – have been found.

New study suggests role for curcumin and related compounds in treatment of cancer and Alzheimer’s

NEWS

A new study suggests that curcumin and related compounds may have therapeutic effects in cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

COMMENT

There is no doubt that the health benefits of curcumin, an extract of turmeric, are increasingly being recognized. Just recently, for example, the mass media in Britain has been widely promoting the story of a woman who successfully used it to recover from advanced cancer. As effective as curcumin seems to have been for this lady, however, there is more than a grain of truth in the statements made in the British media that taking curcumin alone might not work for all cancer patients.

As cancer studies conducted at the Dr. Rath Research Institute under the direction of Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki have clearly shown, for the very best results in the natural control of this disease, carefully chosen balanced combinations of micronutrients are significantly more effective than individual ones used alone. To learn about the natural approach to cancer advocated by Dr. Rath, Dr. Niedzwikeci, and their scientific colleagues, read the groundbreaking book, Victory Over Cancer!

Can ‘light nutrition’ help us beat the January blues?

NEWS

During winter when the nights are long and days short, getting up for work in the dark and coming home in the dark can be grim. Some of us succumb to the January blues, leading to increased illness, reduced productivity and a general feeling of melancholy. But can clever lighting improve our sleep patterns and lift our moods?

COMMENT

So-called ‘Seasonal Affective Disorder’ (SAD) has been receiving increased attention in recent years. Sometimes known as ‘Winter Depression’, the symptoms are typically most severe at the time of the year when there is the least daylight.

To treat this depressive disorder some doctors now prescribe light therapy, in which patients spend time sitting in front of a special box that produces a form of light that is similar to sunlight. Other doctors give drugs, such as those from the particularly dangerous class of medication known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs).

Unknown to many doctors and SAD sufferers, however, there is growing evidence that nutritional approaches can be helpful in alleviating even major depressive disorders. In recent years, supplements containing magnesium, B vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to be particularly effective. Certainly, therefore, given the complete safety of these essential micronutrients, patients diagnosed as suffering from SAD may find them well worth giving a try.

EU review of Bayer's Monsanto bid postponed further

NEWS

Bayer’s quest to win regulatory approval for its planned takeover of Monsanto ran into further delays on Monday as European Union antitrust investigators extended their investigation by five working days until March 12.

COMMENT

Aware as it is that an international tribunal has accused Monsanto of committing ‘Ecocide’, only time will tell whether the anti-democratic Brussels EU construct bows to public pressure and prevents the company’s merger with Bayer from going ahead. Regardless of the outcome, however, one thing is already certain.

Achieving our Foundation’s vision of a world of health, peace, and social justice requires each of us to take action to defend our fundamental rights to health and a safe environment. In doing so, we must demand that our political representatives decide whose interests they are really representing. In the years ahead, it is essential that politicians placing corporate interests before the welfare of their citizens are removed from office via the ballot box.

Just as importantly, however, we must also ensure that undemocratic political structures such as the Brussels EU – whose most powerful executives are completely unelected by the people – are dismantled.

Without such actions and changes to our political systems, the abuse of our rights by multinational corporations will inevitably continue.

Bicarbonate of soda could spare women in developing countries from caesarean section

NEWS

Lack of access to a caesarean section, or complications arising from one, accounts for many deaths in developing countries. But now a team of scientists has identified that a simple drink of bicarbonate of soda could make all the difference.

COMMENT

When a pregnant woman’s contractions are not strong enough during labour, doctors will often administer a powerful hormone known as oxytocin. However, this hormone carries the risk of some serious side effects – including the possibility that it can starve a baby of oxygen. But if oxytocin fails to produce strong enough contractions then surgery, in the form of a caesarean section, may be necessary.

With complications in pregnancy and childbirth still accounting for many deaths in developing countries, it is thus immensely important that something as safe and simple as drinking bicarbonate of soda dissolved in water has been shown to help women having slow or difficult labours to give birth naturally.

As this research therefore reminds us, non-drug approaches to healthcare have the potential to save many lives worldwide. The fact that such approaches are affordable as well as being safe and effective makes them especially important for developing countries, where the availability of sufficient funding and resources for healthcare systems can be limited.

To learn about the vital roles of micronutrients in helping to ensure a healthy outcome in pregnancy, read parts one and two of the special feature article on the Dr. Rath Research Institute website.

Research finds vitamin D is important for respiratory health

NEWS

A new study carried out by The University of Western Australia, the Busselton Health Study and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital has found vitamin D deficiency can contribute to poor respiratory functioning and health in middle-aged adults.

COMMENT

Here again we see further evidence supporting Dr. Rath’s scientific discovery that the primary cause of today’s most common chronic diseases is a deficiency of vitamins and other micronutrients. So overwhelming is the scientific evidence supporting Dr. Rath’s discovery that we now have the very real possibility to reduce and largely eliminate diseases that have haunted mankind from its very beginning.

Study finds higher omega-3 concentrations may be associated with lower risk of heart disease

NEWS

A study carried out by researchers in China suggests that higher concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids may lead to a lower risk of heart disease.

COMMENT

Over the past couple of decades, a succession of studies has shown that omega-3 fatty acids are helpful in preventing and controlling diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and others. Recent research has added to our knowledge regarding this important class of micronutrients by finding they can also help reduce inflammation in chronic kidney disease, treat major depression and, when combined with B vitamins, stop the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

With research published by Harvard University in 2009 suggesting that omega-3 deficiency causes up to 96,000 deaths per year in the United States – thus making it the sixth biggest killer of Americans – ensuring you have an optimum supply of these essential fatty acids and incorporating them into a synergistically balanced supplement regime may be one of the best things you can do towards enhancing and protecting your health.

Big Pharma Fails to Disclose Antibiotic Waste Leaked from Factories into the Environment

NEWS

Many of the world’s leading drug manufacturers may be leaking antibiotics from their factories into the environment, according to a new report from a drug industry watchdog. This risks creating more superbugs.

COMMENT

As if the inability of its drugs to safely and effectively eradicate chronic diseases wasn’t bad enough, the fact is that the pharma industry is also environmentally unsustainable. Evidence is growing worldwide that pharma companies are polluting the environment and that even our drinking water supplies are now contaminated with measurable amounts of dangerous chemical drugs.

A study published in 2009 found that fish caught near wastewater treatment plants serving five major U.S. cities had residues of pharmaceuticals in them. Testing has also revealed that at least 46 million Americans are drinking water contaminated with pharmaceuticals. Meanwhile, scientists in the UK have found cancer drugs in tap water and rising levels of antidepressant drugs in coastal waters which they fear could seriously upset the natural balance of the ecosystem and potentially damage the food-chain.

The world’s highest drug levels in water are believed to occur in India, where 21 different active pharmaceutical ingredients – at 150 times the highest levels detected in the U.S. – have been found.

College football players in the United States lack vitamin D

NEWS

A new study suggests that almost 60 percent of college football players in the United States have low levels of vitamin D.

COMMENT

While vitamin D is the subject of growing interest in the sporting world, you don’t have to be an elite athlete to benefit from it. A pilot study from Scotland published in 2015 showed that even in ordinary people, taking vitamin D supplements can improve exercise performance and lower blood pressure. Carried out by researchers from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh the study found that volunteers given 2000IU of vitamin D for two weeks in its highly bioavailable D3 form, as cholecalciferol, were able to cycle for longer with less exertion than those given placebo pills.

To learn how the use of synergistic combinations of micronutrients can help optimize performance for anybody who engages in regular physical exercise, read this article on our Foundation website.
