Weedkiller used on GM crops is found in range of products including Kellogg's Cornflakes and Doritos

NEWS

A pesticide that is used heavily on GM crops has been found in foods sold in the US including cereals and snacks.

COMMENT

The pesticide found in these foods, glyphosate, is produced by Monsanto and has been identified by the World Health Organization as a 'probable human carcinogen'. Said to be the most heavily used chemical weedkiller in the history of food and agricultural production, the report revealing the presence of glyphosate in these products specifically described the levels of the chemical found in them as “alarming”.

With even the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine now arguing that the time has come to thoroughly reconsider all aspects of the safety of GM crops, it is hardly surprising that organic farming approaches are rising across the globe. In Europe the organic farming sector has grown rapidly over the past ten years, with around half a million new hectares being added annually. In the United States, around 81 percent of families are reported to be eating organically at least some of the time.

As Dr. Rath described in the Barletta Declaration, in order to create a truly effective, preventive health care system we have to tear down the artificial barriers that exist between nutrition and health, as well as between medicine and agriculture. In this respect, the growing awareness regarding the higher micronutrient content of organic foods, and the crucial role organic farming can play in benefitting both our health and that of the environment, will go a long way towards making this happen.

High doses of vitamin D reduce the risk of respiratory illnesses by 40%

NEWS

Vitamin D could soon be used to treat deadly respiratory viruses, new research suggests.

COMMENT

The conventional approach to the treatment of respiratory illnesses relies heavily on the use of synthetic chemical drugs. However, these are of limited efficacy and are inevitably associated with side effects.

Notably, therefore, studies conducted by researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute have shown that proper immune function requires optimum quantities of a wide variety of specific micronutrients. In a study published in 2007, for example, a synergistic combination of micronutrients including vitamin C, green tea extract, N-Acetylcysteine, selenium, lysine, proline, arginine and others was found to be effective against key mechanisms of flu virus infection. Impressively, when used together, these micronutrients reduced the multiplication of viruses in cells by 82% and the ability of the virus to infect other cells by 70%.

Fish oil supplements may improve muscle function in older women

NEWS

Taking omega-3 supplements could improve muscle function in older women, potentially increasing their quality of life into old age and preventing unnecessary falls and loss of independence.

COMMENT

As many women have learned over the years when visiting their doctors, conventional medicine essentially sees the loss of muscle strength that occurs with ageing as untreatable and inevitable. After the age of 30, human beings typically lose 3-8 percent of their muscle mass each decade. Over time this results in a decrease in muscle strength and a consequent increase in falls and mortality.

Significantly, therefore, recent research has shown that vitamin D3 supplements can significantly increase muscle strength, protect against muscle loss and reduce the risk of falls. In this study, conducted by researchers from the Botucatu Medical School in Sao Paulo State University, Brazil, it is notable that the benefits were observed in women even as late as 12 or more years after menopause. Europe at risk of collapse

NEWS

The European Union is in danger of breaking apart unless France and Germany, in particular, work harder to stimulate growth and employment and heed citizens' concerns, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said in the German capital on Thursday.

COMMENT

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls is simply the latest in a long line of political and financial insiders to admit that that the Brussels EU is on the brink of breaking apart. Notably, back in August, Nobel-Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz went even further when he stated that Europe is heading towards a "cataclysmic event" that could lead not only to the collapse of the euro currency but also the end of the Brussels EU itself. A former Chief Economist at the World Bank, Stiglitz believes that one more political event similar to the United Kingdom's recent decision to leave the Brussels EU is now all it would take to trigger these outcomes.

To replace the Brussels EU, what is needed is a Europe that genuinely acts in the interests of its people: a Europe for the People, by the People that rejects the profit over life model and puts the right to health, the right to life, the right to natural food, and the right to a healthy environment before the interests of multinational corporations. Not only is this vision of Europe possible, the need to create it is becoming increasingly urgent.

Boy left paralysed after chemo treatment goes wrong

NEWS

A 10-year-old has been left paralysed after his chemotherapy treatment went horribly wrong. Huntar Sammons was diagnosed with fast-growing non-Hodgkin lymphoma earlier this year, after a tumour was found in the Wellington resident's brain.

COMMENT

Even when supposedly administered ‘correctly’, chemotherapy is extremely toxic. So much so, in fact, that it indiscriminately damages all organs and cell systems in the body. Shockingly, therefore, in a damning indictment of the dangers and ineffectiveness of cancer drugs, new research carried out in the UK has found that, in some hospitals, within 30 days of starting treatment, chemotherapy is killing up to 50 per cent of patients who receive it.

Fortunately, therefore, with public trust in chemotherapy for cancer collapsing, the scientific orthodoxy is beginning to wake up to natural approaches. A study published online in the journal Science in 2015 confirmed that high levels of vitamin C can selectively kill two different types of mutant colorectal cancer cells – neither of which respond well to chemotherapy. The research team concluded that their results provide a mechanistic rationale for exploring the therapeutic use of vitamin C in colorectal cancers carrying these mutations.

Increasingly, realizing that a cancer-free world is possible using natural approaches, many cancer patients are choosing to turn their backs on the status quo and take their own decisions about what is best for their health. Not only is the Drug Cartel increasingly being backed into a corner over this development, the end of the 'age of chemo tyranny' is gradually coming within sight.

Greece’s Public Health Services on the brink of collapse

NEWS

Employees at Public Hospitals warn: “Greece’s Public Health Services are on the brink of collapse” Six years of economic crisis, loan agreements, austerity cuts and freezing of new hiring threaten the primary care health care system. A report published by the Panhellenic Federation of Employees at Public Hospitals (POEDIN) draws a dire picture of the situation and furthermore blames the Health Ministry and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

COMMENT

Still unrealized by millions of people who are suffering economically under the dictatorial rule of the Brussels EU, the financial crisis afflicting Europe is essentially the result of a deliberate act of policy. In a little-reported statement given in March at the influential London School of Economics in the UK, Lord Mervyn King, the former Governor of the Bank of England, openly confirmed this.

As such, far from the situation in Greece being caused by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras as this article claims, the fact is that the Greek people are not alone in finding that their public health services are becoming unaffordable. At the global level, national healthcare systems are increasingly now in crisis. This situation hasn’t occurred due to a lack of funding, however, but as a result of ineffective therapies that do not address the primary cause of chronic diseases.

Solving the global healthcare crisis does not depend simply on throwing increased amounts of money at the problem. Unless money is properly utilized and deliberately targeted towards addressing the primary cause of chronic diseases, our healthcare systems will inevitably remain trapped in an endless cycle of ineffectively treating symptoms at an ever-increasing cost.

‘Tremendous economic savings’: Probiotics could save $100 million in healthcare costs in Canada

NEWS

Using probiotics to prevent and reduce the severity and duration of respiratory infections could reduce healthcare costs in Canada by as much as Can$100 million, says a new analysis.

COMMENT

In recent years, scientific research has demonstrated positive effects for probiotics in a wide variety of diseases and health problems. These include cancer, infections, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, allergies, metabolic diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, and others. It is now clear that not only can probiotics make a significant contribution towards promoting and maintaining good health, they can also make tremendous economic savings while doing so.

There is also impressive evidence that micronutrient supplements can reduce national healthcare costs. A study published in 2013 in the American Journal of Managed Care showed that supplement use can cut the length of hospital stays, decrease costs, and reduce the chance of readmissions. Significantly, the researchers found that supplement use reduced the average length of hospital stays by over 2 days and the average cost by more than $4,700. The likelihood of patients being readmitted to hospital was also decreased.

At national levels, research clearly shows that tens of billions could be saved even by something as simple as making sure a population gets adequate intakes of vitamin D. A review published in 2010 found that ensuring people in Germany get sufficient vitamin D could save that country around €37 billion ($47 billion) a year in healthcare costs.

Vitamin D supplements may benefit children with autism spectrum disorder

NEWS

Vitamin D supplementation improved symptoms of autism in a recent trial, report researchers.

COMMENT

There can be no doubt that micronutrient intake affects behavior. Work conducted in the United States has shown that school children given a daily micronutrient supplement for a period of 4 months had lower rates of threats and fighting, vandalism, being disrespectful, disorderly conduct, defiance, obscenities, refusal to work or serve, endangering others, and other offences. The researchers who carried out this study concluded that poor nutritional habits in children that lead to low concentrations of water-soluble vitamins in blood can impair brain function, and subsequently cause violence and other serious antisocial behavior. Conversely, correcting nutrient deficiencies improves brain function and lowers institutional violence and antisocial behavior.

Poor nutrition during pregnancy can cause early aging of baby's heart

NEWS

New research has shown that the child of a slightly undernourished mother is more likely to suffer early aging of the heart.

COMMENT

This research adds to the mountain of evidence that clearly shows how an optimum supply of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other micronutrients is vital for the health of the developing fetus. Moreover, it adds further support to the groundbreaking discoveries of Dr. Rath in the area of cardiovascular health. As he describes in his classic book, Why Animals Don’t Get Heart Attacks…But People Do, micronutrient deficiency is the primary underlying cause for MOST cardiovascular conditions today, including high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, diabetic circulatory problems, heart failure, and others.

What all these heart conditions have in common is that all cells in the body use the same “cell fuel“ — carriers of bioenergy or biocatalysts — for the multitude of biochemical reactions that take place inside them. However, many of these essential biocatalysts and bioenergy molecules cannot be produced by the body itself and must therefore be supplied through our diets, either in food or in supplements, on a regular basis. Specific vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and trace elements are among the most important essential micronutrients that are needed for the optimum function of each cell. Without an optimum intake of these essential dietary elements, the function of billions of cells becomes impaired and diseases – such as those affecting the heart – can then develop.

Maternal B12 deficiency may increase child's risk of type 2 diabetes

NEWS

B12 deficiency during pregnancy may predispose children to metabolic problems such as type-2 diabetes, according to research.

COMMENT

Once again, we see here how an optimum supply of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other micronutrients is vital for the developing fetus. If the nutritional needs of the fetus are not met, its organ systems, birth weight, future health, and even survival can be affected.

But as Dr. Rath’s Cellular Medicine research has long proven, there is hope even for those children who develop type 2 diabetes. As we now know, the primary reason why type 2 diabetes develops is a chronic deficiency of specific micronutrients that work in synergy in millions of cells in the pancreas (the organ that produces insulin), the liver, and the walls of our blood vessels. Seen in this light, it makes logical sense that an optimum intake of vitamins and other micronutrients can help correct existing diabetic conditions and their complications. Significantly, therefore, in a clinical pilot study carried out by researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute, the positive effects of a synergistic combination of micronutrients have been demonstrated in type 2 diabetics.

Low vitamin D levels linked to increased risk of bladder cancer

NEWS

Vitamin D deficiency is associated with an increased risk of developing bladder cancer, according to a systematic review of seven studies.

COMMENT

Cancer of the bladder is now the fourth most common cause of cancer in men. In an illustration of this, estimates suggest that in 2015 over 70 thousand new cases of bladder cancer were diagnosed in the United States.

It is notable that more than 90% of cancer deaths occur due to the spread of cancer and that the connective tissue digesting enzymes – matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) – play a significant role in cancer metastasis. Crucially, therefore, research conducted at the Dr. Rath Research Institute has shown how a synergistic combination of micronutrients including vitamin C, lysine, proline, green tea extract, and others can inhibit specific types of MMP enzymes by up to 100%. Impressively, this research also noted that the micronutrient combination studied was able to induce apoptosis (natural cancer cell death) in bladder cancer cells.

Green tea extract supplements may improve lipid levels for women

NEWS

Taking green tea supplements for one year may slash total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in post-menopausal women, says a new study.

COMMENT

As interesting as this study is, the fact remains that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease. As Dr. Rath’s scientific discovery has shown, this disease essentially occurs for precisely the same reason that clinical (early) scurvy does – a deficiency of vitamin C in the cells composing the artery wall.

Unlike animals, humans develop heart disease because their bodies cannot produce vitamin C. While the average human diet provides enough vitamin C to prevent scurvy, this is not enough to guarantee stable artery walls. As a consequence of the insufficient supply of this essential nutrient, millions of tiny cracks and lesions develop in the artery walls. Subsequently, cholesterol, lipoproteins, and other risk factors enter to repair this damage.

Of all these risk factors, by far the most important is a molecule known as Lipoprotein(a). Primarily found in humans and sub-human primates, Lipoprotein(a) functions as a repair molecule compensating for the structural impairment of the vascular wall. In general, animals that produce vitamin C in their bodies do not produce Lipoprotein(a). In human beings, in the case of a chronic deficiency of vitamin C, the arterial repair process becomes continuous. Over the course of many years, atherosclerotic deposits develop. This eventually leads to the occurrence of heart attacks and strokes.

To read about the groundbreaking study published in April 2015 by scientists at the Dr. Rath Research Institute, which proved that heart disease is an early form of the vitamin C deficiency disease scurvy, read this press release on our Foundation website.

Pancreatic cancer set to become third biggest cancer killer in EU next year

NEWS

The number of deaths from pancreatic cancer will overtake breast cancer mortality rates in the EU in 2017, a study has found.

COMMENT

Cancer of the pancreas is a serious and almost always fatal disease. Estimates suggest it will become the world’s second deadliest cancer by 2030.

One of the reasons why pancreatic cancer is invariably fatal is because it has usually already spread by the time it is diagnosed. Notably, therefore, researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute have found that a synergistic combination of micronutrients can affect the growth and tissue migrating potential of pancreatic cancer cells. Impressively, they observed that the specific micronutrient combination studied in their research was able to reduce the growth of pancreatic cancer cells by 62%. In addition, the micronutrients could completely stop the secretion of the collagen digesting enzymes that all cancer cells use to spread in the body. As a result, because the micronutrients helped strengthen the surrounding connective tissue, the pancreatic cancer cells were less able to break through this natural barrier and their potential to spread was consequently reduced by up to 87%.

You can find out more about the benefits of the micronutrient synergy approach to pancreatic cancer by reading this edition of the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s health information newsletter.

Alzheimer's disease: Probiotics could improve memory for people with dementia

NEWS

Probiotics such as yoghurt can improve some of the symptoms such as memory loss in patients with Alzheimer's disease, new research has revealed.

COMMENT

With scientific research having also demonstrated positive effects for probiotics in cancer, infections, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, allergies, metabolic diseases, and other conditions, it is now clear they can make a significant contribution towards promoting and maintaining good health.

In addition, there are also now abundant scientific studies showing the effectiveness of micronutrients against Alzheimer’s disease. Impressively, the list of substances that have been shown to be helpful in preventing or controlling this debilitating neurological condition now includes resveratrol, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, vitamin D, B vitamins, flavonoids, vitamin E, inositol, pycnogenol, and others.

Women with high levels of Vitamin D are more likely to survive breast cancer

NEWS

Having high levels of vitamin D could help women to survive breast cancer, new research suggests.

COMMENT

Approximately 1.38 million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year, with around 458,000 deaths occurring annually. However, while the mass media has ensured women are increasingly aware of this disease, little attention has been paid to scientifically proven natural approaches for preventing and controlling it.

Significantly, therefore, scientific research conducted at the Dr. Rath Research Institute has shown how a specific combination of micronutrients including vitamin C, lysine, proline, green tea extract, and others can control multiple steps in breast cancer. The scientific results from this research clearly indicate that, if implemented into clinical practice, it has real potential for the natural prevention and control of this disease.

Stop junk food ads on kids' apps - WHO

NEWS

Children need to be protected from pervasive junk food adverts in apps, social media and video blogs, the World Health Organization says. Its report warns parents are often unaware of the sheer volume of such adverts as they are precisely targeting children.

COMMENT

When teachers experience problems with antisocial, hyperactive and violent behavior in their classes, it might just be time to examine the kids’ diets. In one particularly notable study conducted in the United States, for example, researchers found that school children given a daily nutritional supplement had lower rates of threats and fighting, vandalism, being disrespectful, disorderly conduct, defiance, obscenities, refusal to work or serve, endangering others, and other offences.

Notably, therefore, for many years now, award winning British TV chef Jamie Oliver has been educating children all over the world about junk food and the dangers of eating it. He even went into schools and gave presentations to parents, teachers, and pupils, and ran a big TV campaign. As a result of his efforts, people became more aware of the importance of nutritional value in their diets and kids became more conscious of what they put in their stomachs. (Unfortunately Jamie Oliver subsequently went on to support Bill and Melinda Gates, who are major promoters of genetically modified food. But that’s another story)!

Low level vitamin D is associated with high risk of aggressive prostate cancer

NEWS

A new study provides a major link between low levels of vitamin D and aggressive prostate cancer.

COMMENT

Prostate cancer is the leading cancer in men; one in every six will be diagnosed with it during their lifetime. Promisingly, therefore, natural approaches are opening up exciting new possibilities for controlling this disease. Over the past couple of years, for example, studies have shown that green tea extract may help reduce its incidence and that vitamin D supplements can slow down or reverse its development.

However, unlike the use of individual nutrients, the micronutrient synergy approach pioneered by researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute can simultaneously affect multiple mechanisms that cancer uses to overpower the body. Unlike pharmaceutical treatments such as chemotherapy, this strategy limits the ability of cancer to adapt and escape treatment.

Using the micronutrient synergy approach, researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute have studied the effects of a specific combination of micronutrients on the growth of prostate cancer and its ability to spread. Based on their results, they concluded that the ongoing debate over the most cost-effective treatment choices for this disease should include evaluation of the micronutrient synergy approach as a safe, affordable, and effective way to help millions of men worldwide.

New study reveals that the closest some British children get to vegetables are baked beans and pizza toppings

NEWS

The diet of Britain's youngsters is leaving a sour taste in the mouths of healthy eating campaigners.

COMMENT

It is no secret that many children eat poor diets. As a result of consuming too few fresh fruits and vegetables, they become prone to developing chronic deficiencies of essential micronutrients that can impair their growth and increase the risk of disease.

Making the problem even worse, for decades now industrialized countries have indiscriminately been using pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and other industrial farming practices. This has led to a severe depletion of nutrients in the soil. As such, even those children who regularly consume fruits and vegetables are no longer getting the same levels of micronutrients from them that their grandparents once were.

Significantly, therefore, studies have shown that inadequate nutrition impairs a child’s physical growth, as well as development of the brain and nervous system, and that it can also affect immunity and learning ability. Therefore, providing appropriate nutrition is the obvious first step towards supporting the healthy development of a child at any age.

To learn how the health benefits of micronutrient supplementation have been documented in children, read this issue of the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s health information newsletter.

Brexit court defeat for UK government

NEWS

The UK Parliament must vote on whether the country can start the process of leaving the EU, the High Court in London has ruled. This means the UK government cannot trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty - beginning formal exit negotiations with the EU - on its own.

COMMENT

While a clear majority of people in the UK voted to leave the Brussels EU on June 23, the referendum was only the first step in a process that is likely to take several years to complete. Moreover, it should not be forgotten that there are widespread interests – both corporate and political – in the UK and Europe who will do whatever it takes to prevent Brexit from occurring.

Ultimately, for health, peace, and social justice to be possible in Europe, the future shape of the European continent has to be designed around the concept of a democratic ‘Europe for the People, by the People’. In such a model the interests of people have to come first, not the profits of multinational corporations.

German cabinet approves draft law banning GMO crops

NEWS

The German cabinet has approved a draft law banning cultivation of crops with genetically modified organisms (GMOs), government sources told Reuters on Wednesday.

COMMENT

With biotech companies predictably lobbying strongly against this proposed law, only time will tell whether it is eventually passed. Regardless, however, there is now a growing awareness among the people of the world that they have been lied to about GM crops.

For example, a recent analysis by the New York Times found that, contrary to the promises of the biotech industry, genetic modification in the United States and Canada has not accelerated increases in crop yields or led to an overall reduction in the use of chemical pesticides.

Similarly, a perspective published in the New England Journal of Medicine in August 2015 pointed out that sharp increases have taken place in the amounts and numbers of herbicides applied to GM crops and that still further increases are scheduled to occur in the next few years.

Clearly, therefore, the longer our governments refuse to take action to prevent the use of dangerous chemical pesticides and genetically modified seeds, the louder and stronger the arguments will become that they are putting the interests of multinational corporations first and those of consumers a very distant second.

How do we avoid the antibiotics apocalypse?

NEWS

Every year, at least 700,000 people die from drug-resistant infections. It is why government scientists have described antibiotic resistance as one of the greatest global threats of the 21st Century.

COMMENT

Barely a week goes by these days without a media headline telling us that antibiotic resistant “superbugs” have become one of the world’s most pressing health concerns. Declaring that we stand on the threshold of the post-antibiotic era, such news stories try to frighten us into believing that, by the middle of this century, superbugs could be killing millions of people every year. Notably, however, whenever the question is raised as to what alternative approaches might be available for controlling infections, no mention whatsoever is made of the fact that micronutrient supplementation can enhance immune function and suppress infection.

In this respect, Dr. Rath’s breakthrough discoveries define new biological targets towards developing natural approaches to controlling viral and bacterial infections. These methodologies stress the importance of connective tissue stability and integrity in our understanding of how infectious diseases spread in the body, and describe how specific combinations of micronutrients can protect and stabilize this important biological barrier.

Vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients play critical roles in affecting the ability of infectious agents to invade the body’s cells and multiply, and in the proper functioning of the immune system. A chronic lack of specific micronutrients in the cells weakens the immune system and makes the body prone to infections and immune deficiency diseases. Fortunately, however, this outcome can be avoided through supplementing with the correct combinations of key micronutrients.

You can learn more about Dr. Rath’s discoveries concerning infections in a special feature section on the website of the Dr. Rath Research Institute.

Why processed food may cause bowel cancer: Common additives change gut bacteria which allow tumours to grow

NEWS

Common additives used in every day foods including bread, margarine and sweets may be behind the huge rise in bowel cancer, scientists claim.

COMMENT

Following Dr. Rath’s introduction of the scientific concept of Cellular Medicine, we now know that the primary cause of cancer is a chronic deficiency of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other essential micronutrients. Given that processed foods are invariably poor sources of micronutrients, the direct connection between unhealthy diets and the development of ill health becomes easy to understand. On top of this, the consumption of synthetic chemical additives only further increases the dangers that such diets pose to health.

In view of this latest news story it is therefore notable that, in recent years, scientific evidence has been growing regarding the important roles that intestinal bacteria play in protecting our health. Disturbances to these bacteria, as can also result from the use of antibiotics, can have significant negative health effects.

Impressively, therefore, the health problems for which research has demonstrated positive effects for probiotic supplements include cancer; infections; diarrhea; inflammatory bowel disease; allergies; metabolic diseases; and others. Based on this research, in addition to a good diet and proper supplementation according to the micronutrient synergy approach, it is now clear that probiotic supplements can make a significant contribution towards promoting and maintaining an optimum state of health.

'Good evidence' for zinc against diabetes complications: Review

NEWS

Higher zinc levels in the blood may be linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease for those with diabetes, says a review that also exposes holes in existing evidence.

COMMENT

As important as zinc is, the fact is that lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease and protecting against complications in diabetes cannot be achieved through higher blood levels of any one single micronutrient alone. Instead, controlling these health problems requires the use of specific and carefully chosen micronutrient combinations acting together in biological synergy.

Based on this understanding, Dr. Rath’s Cellular Medicine approach provides a scientific breakthrough in explaining the causes, prevention, and adjunct treatment of adult onset diabetes. As his research has shown, the primary cause of this disease is a long-term deficiency of certain vitamins and other essential micronutrients in the billions of cells in the pancreas (the organ that produces insulin), the liver, the blood vessel walls, and other organs.

Dutch campaigners gather signatures to derail EU-Canada trade deal

NEWS

Activists in the Netherlands have gathered almost two-thirds of the signatures needed to lay the groundwork for a referendum on Europe’s free trade deal with Canada, which they say overly favours the interests of multinational companies.

COMMENT

Like other transnational trade deals, the Brussels EU-Canada agreement (CETA) puts the interests of multinational corporations before those of ordinary citizens. With people throughout Europe and Canada becoming increasingly aware of this, opposition to this deal will inevitably – and, quite rightly – only continue to grow. Clearly, therefore, from a democratic perspective, the more able citizens are to express their opposition to such developments through national referendums, the better.

In this respect, the great fear of the corporate dictatorship that currently controls Europe is that the future political shape of the European continent will increasingly be based around the use of participatory democracy. In Switzerland, for example, the holding of national referendums is already commonplace. In that country, if enough eligible voters support a proposal, citizens are entitled to put almost any law passed by their government to a national vote. Similarly, Swiss citizens also have the right to propose almost any constitutional amendment they wish. Hardly surprisingly, therefore, while no country is perfect, Switzerland's unique political approach is seen by many as the world's most stable democratic system and a model to be copied and built on by others.

Illustrating this, in September 2014 the Rockefeller family announced it is planning to withdraw its philanthropic fund’s fossil fuel investments and move into clean energy instead. Having made one of the world’s largest fortunes through the oil business over the past 140 years or so, the announcement stated that the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s holdings in fossil fuels will be slashed to less than one percent of its total portfolio and that it will reinvest in “clean energy technologies and other business strategies that advance energy efficiency”.

While many obstacles still exist that will doubtless continue to impede mankind’s progress towards the goal of Free Energy for All, the process of freeing the world from the tyranny of oil is clearly now getting underway.

Vitamin E can modify the risk of pneumonia in some older men depending on their lifestyle

NEWS

Many people have been advised to take vitamin supplements to boost their immune systems. However, a recent study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that taking vitamin E supplements led to an increased risk of pneumonia for more than one in four older men (28%) who smoked and did not exercise. However, the opposite effect was true for older men who exercised and did not smoke - in that vitamin E actually decreased their risk of contracting pneumonia.

COMMENT

On the one hand, of course, a particular limitation of this study is that it examines the effect of vitamin E in isolation. This is an important consideration due to the fact that vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients do not work alone in the body. Instead, as the Micronutrient Synergy concept pioneered by the Dr. Rath Research Institute explains, all nutrients participate in complex metabolic processes in our body and interact with other nutrients either by enhancing or opposing their actions. Their optimal interaction and cellular balance is the very basis of health.

On the other hand, however, it cannot be ignored that the findings of this study further emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle in maintaining optimum health. Regular exercise is a precondition for good cardiovascular health, for example. Moderate exercise such as walking or bicycling is ideal and can be performed by everyone.

While it is known that smoking dramatically increases the risk for cardiovascular disease, the underlying reason for this has not been widely appreciated. Cigarette smoke contains millions of free radicals, which are aggressive molecules that damage the cells of our blood vessels and other organs and accelerate biological rusting. Free radicals and other toxic substances in cigarette smoke reach the bloodstream via the lungs. These noxious substances can damage the blood vessel pipeline along its entire length of 60,000 miles.

In the body’s defense against these aggressive molecules, its precious supplies of antioxidants are used up. Among all antioxidants, vitamin C is the first one to be destroyed. With the body’s vitamin reserves depleted, cardiovascular disease starts in the blood vessel system — just as in early scurvy. This explains why atherosclerosis in smokers is not limited to the coronary arteries and why damage occurs in the arteries and capillaries throughout the body. “Smoker’s foot” is a typical outcome of this, requiring toes or a foot to be amputated.

As Dr. Rath recommends in his classic book, Why Animals Don’t Get Heart Attacks…But People Do, if you still smoke it is definitely worth the effort to stop. In its place, optimize your daily intake of micronutrients and natural antioxidants and take plenty of regular exercise. Your heart and body will thank you for it!

Kids with vitamin D deficiency more likely to develop asthma: 10-year study

NEWS

Children with vitamin D deficiency are more likely to develop asthma, a 10-year study of children in Perth, Australia, has discovered.

COMMENT

In confirming that kids with vitamin D deficiency are more likely to develop asthma, the finding of this study is consistent with the key principle of Dr. Rath’s Cellular Medicine concept. As Dr. Rath’s discoveries and the scientific work carried out at the Dr. Rath Research Institute in California have shown, the primary cause of today’s most common chronic diseases is a deficiency of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other specific micronutrients.

In a clinical pilot trial involving asthma patients aged between 45 and 75 years old, researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute examined the effectiveness of a specific combination of micronutrients against asthma. The study lasted for a period of three months, during which all participants were intermittently subjected to lung function tests. At the end of the three months, all of the patients experienced an increased lung capacity. In fact, many of them recorded lung capacity values that were almost double what they had before starting the trial. The outcome of the study thus proved that with a simple micronutrient supplementation, asthma sufferers can improve their symptoms without any risk to their health or the high costs of pharmaceutical drugs.

AstraZeneca warns Big Pharma will pull out of Britain unless it starts paying for new drugs

NEWS

Pharmaceutical companies will leave the UK unless its government and National Health Service start to pay for “breakthrough” drugs, particularly cancer treatments, a senior executive at AstraZeneca has warned.

COMMENT

For anyone who still doubts that the pharma industry exerts political and economic pressure on our governments, this story provides the proof. Increasingly, unscrupulous drug makers are demanding that national health services spend more money on the toxic synthetic chemicals they manufacture as the supposed answers to diseases.

In reality, however, the global healthcare crisis isn’t due to a lack of funding, but to ineffective therapies. Solving this crisis does not depend simply on throwing increased amounts of money at the problem. Unless money is properly utilized and deliberately targeted towards addressing the primary cause of chronic diseases, namely, micronutrient deficiencies, our healthcare systems will inevitably remain trapped in an endless cycle of ineffectively treating symptoms at an ever-increasing cost.

Real healthcare reform involves recognizing the primary cause of chronic diseases and taking action to protect populations through the preventive use of science-based natural health approaches. Let’s hope that somewhere, sooner or later, a government is elected that understands this.

Women who give birth in the winter 'should take higher levels of vitamin D to fight defects'

NEWS

Pregnant women who are due to give birth over the winter may need to take stronger vitamin D supplements, a major study suggests.

COMMENT

An optimum supply of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other micronutrients is vital both for the developing fetus and the expectant mother. Inadequate nourishment in any phase of pregnancy will affect the organ systems, birth weight, and survival of the baby. This is important, as the development of the organs during pregnancy can determine how their growth continues after the baby’s birth.

During the course of pregnancy it is estimated that a woman’s caloric demands increase by about 300 calories per day, while protein requirements increase by 10 grams per day. Higher amounts of micronutrients are similarly required to support the increased basal metabolism of the mother’s body, as well as support the growing fetus. If proteins and minerals such as calcium are not adequately supplied, these important nutrients are extracted from body stores in the mother, such as her muscles and bones, thus making her vulnerable for future health issues of her own.

In the absence of adequate micronutrients, all women who want to become pregnant, or those with multiple or closely spaced pregnancies, are prone to developing severe deficiencies. For maximum health effects, supplementary micronutrients should be synergistically combined so as to promote a healthy and normal pregnancy.

For more information about the importance of micronutrients in pregnancy, read parts one and two of a special feature article from the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s popular health information newsletter.

The frighteningly high human and financial costs of war

NEWS

We have always known that war is dirty and destructive, but now a US-led international team of researchers is revealing precisely how destructive and expensive several wars have been for the United States and the countries it invades - and how the ravages and costs of war could persist for generations after the fighting and bombing stop.

COMMENT

The shocking reality is that the world’s weekly military expenditure now exceeds the annual cost of ending global hunger.

In 2008, for example, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization estimated the cost of ending global hunger at only 30 billion dollars a year. To put this figure into context, global military expenditure in 2014 totaled 1.8 trillion dollars.

Looking at it another way, the cost of ending global hunger equates to less than 0.04% of gross world product (the total value of all goods and services produced on the planet in a single year) – a miniscule fraction of global earnings.

The fact is that had the political will existed, global hunger could have been ended a long time ago. Unlike the waging of wars to create the necessary psychological state of fear for maintaining global control, our leaders have not seen feeding the hundreds of millions of starving people on our planet as politically important.

But by working together, the people of the world can change this disgraceful and criminal waste of resources. Make a start today by sharing this information through your social media channels as widely as possible!

Doubts About the Promised Bounty of Genetically Modified Crops

NEWS

The controversy over genetically modified crops has long focused on largely unsubstantiated fears that they are unsafe to eat. But an extensive examination by The New York Times indicates that the debate has missed a more basic problem — genetic modification in the United States and Canada has not accelerated increases in crop yields or led to an overall reduction in the use of chemical pesticides.

COMMENT

There is a growing awareness that the people of the world have been lied to about GM crops. Essentially supporting the position now being taken by the New York Times, a perspective published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in August 2015 argued that the United States government should change its position and require labeling of genetically modified (GM) foods.

Entitled ‘GMOs, Herbicides and Public Health’, the NEJM article pointed out that sharp increases have taken place in the amounts and numbers of chemical herbicides applied to GM crops and that still further increases – the largest in a generation – are scheduled to occur in the next few years. With GM crops now being the agricultural products most heavily treated with herbicides, the authors stated they believe the time has come to thoroughly reconsider all aspects of the safety of plant biotechnology.

Test cholesterol of one-year-olds to prevent early heart attacks, study suggests

NEWS

Screening one-year-olds for high cholesterol during routine vaccination visits could prevent hundreds of heart attacks in young adults each year, researchers in England said on Wednesday.

COMMENT

The ultimate goal of the pharmaceutical industry’s stakeholders is a world in which practically everyone uses toxic chemical drugs on a daily basis, from birth to death. In their efforts to achieve total dictatorial control over our healthcare systems, no one – not even children – is seen as exempt from this.

The fact is, however, that high cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, it is merely the consequence of it. As proven in a groundbreaking study published by scientists at the Dr. Rath Research Institute in April 2015, heart disease is actually an early form of the vitamin C deficiency disease scurvy. Building on a discovery made by Dr. Matthias Rath in the early 1990s, the publication of this study dealt a major blow to the cholesterol theory of heart disease and the pharmaceutical industry’s associated $30 billion annual sales in patented cholesterol-lowering statin drugs. To learn more, read the press release that accompanied the release of the study.

Low vitamin D levels are associated with increased negative and depressive symptoms

NEWS

New research presented at this year's International Early Psychosis Association (IEPA) meeting in Milan, Italy (20-22 October) shows that low vitamin D status is associated with increased negative and depressive symptoms in psychotic disorders.

COMMENT

Studies are increasingly showing how moods and behavior can be affected by nutrition. For example, depression, psychotic disorders, and even criminal behavior are all now known to be improvable through the use of nutritional supplements.

Demonstrating the effectiveness of safe natural approaches, omega-3 supplements have been shown to be helpful in treating even major depression, while research conducted almost half a century ago found that chronic psychiatric patients benefit from the administration of vitamin C. Other work has found clear evidence that giving nutritional supplements to prisoners results in them committing fewer violent offences.

The underlying idea behind all these areas of research is essentially a simple one; namely that the brain needs to be nourished, just like all other organs of the body, and that it is therefore vital to consider the brain’s nutritional needs as a key factor governing moods and behavior.

In the interests of a happier and healthier world, we surely owe it both to ourselves and those who are dear to us to share this life-enhancing information as widely as possible.

Probiotics may reduce post-exercise inflammation, offer performance benefits: RCT

NEWS

Co-ingestion of Streptococcus thermophilus FP4 and Bifidobacterium breve BR03 may reduce the drops in performance in the days after muscle-damaging exercise, says a new study.

COMMENT

Evidence continues to grow regarding the wide range of benefits probiotics can provide for human health. In recent years, for example, research has demonstrated positive effects of probiotics against infectious diseases; diarrhea; inflammatory bowel disease; allergies; metabolic diseases; and many other health problems.

Impressively, probiotics have even been shown to be beneficial in cancer. Here, their anti-cancer effects are caused by inactivation or reduced activation of mutagenic and other carcinogenic substances, and also by improving immune function. In this respect, Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus subspecies have particularly been shown to be protective. Observations made in such research include the reduction of free radicals and consequent reduction of DNA damage; the reduction of cancer-promoting bacteria and enzymes in the colon (especially in colorectal cancer); a reduction in the activation and/or absorption of carcinogens; and an increased activity of enzymes with anti-cancer properties.

Clearly, while microbiotica may be small, they play a large and very important role in our health!
