Actavis UK raised drug prices 12,000 percent, watchdog finds

NEWS

Drug maker Actavis UK broke competition law by raising prices of hydrocortisone tablets by more than 12,000 percent, Britain's competition watchdog said in a provisional ruling on Friday.

COMMENT

This story provides a good reminder as to why we refer to the pharma industry as the “business with disease”. Through the ownership and control of synthetic chemicals portrayed as “medicines”, drug manufacturers can arbitrarily define their profits. Functioning as corporate stakeholders feeding a ruthless and cynical investment industry that is driven by shareholder value, improving human health is not their focus. For the robber barons behind this industry, profits, not the interests of patients, are the highest priority.

However, towards our goal of a new global healthcare system based on scientific breakthroughs in the areas of vitamin research and cellular health, it is important to keep in mind that merely lowering the prices of pharmaceutical drugs will not in itself solve the global healthcare crisis. The deeper problem concerns the inability of pharma-oriented healthcare approaches to properly address and correct the root causes of diseases. The main issue with drugs, in other words, is not simply their price but their ineffectiveness.

Ultimately, it is only by spreading the life-saving benefits of nutritional and Cellular Medicine, and correcting micronutrient deficiencies, that a new, truly prevention-oriented system of healthcare can become a reality for our planet.

Potential treatment for pregnant women who suffer from preeclampsia found in a vitamin

NEWS

Scientists in Japan and the US have found that vitamin B3 nicotinamide may help treat pregnant women who suffer from preeclampsia by preventing strokes and in some cases, even stimulating the growth of their fetus.

COMMENT

Pregnancy is one of the most exciting times in a woman’s life. While every expectant mother naturally wishes for a healthy baby, the progress and outcome of each pregnancy depends on multiple factors. These include the mother’s diet and lifestyle before and during pregnancy, the genetic makeup of the parents, and the physical and psychological health of the woman.

Some pregnant women are susceptible to a serious condition known as preeclampsia, the key symptom of which is high blood pressure. Fortunately, therefore, Dr. Rath’s Cellular Medicine approach has shown how vitamin C in combination with arginine, magnesium and other micronutrients, helps increase the elasticity of the blood vessels and maintain normal blood pressure.

To learn about controlling high blood pressure naturally, without drugs, visit the Cellular Health section of our Foundation website and read chapter 7 of Dr. Rath’s classic book, Why Animals Don’t Get Heart Attacks…But People Do!

Sarkozy a step closer to facing trial over campaign finance scandal

NEWS

Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy moved a step closer to facing trial over campaign funding irregularities on Thursday when a court rejected a defense request to halt proceedings against one of 14 suspects in the case.

COMMENT

This case is the latest episode in a long-running scandal over Sarkozy’s campaign financing. Previously, for example, he was charged with allegedly taking advantage of the L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt and accepting cash-stuffed brown envelopes from her to illegally fund his 2007 election campaign. While he was eventually cleared of this charge in 2013, investigations into his campaign financing and alleged shady dealings have continued.

Notably, Sarkozy has long had close links to the drug industry, having brokered the 2004 merger between French pharmaceutical company Sanofi – whose major shareholders include L'Oreal – and Swiss/German drug giant Aventis/Hoechst. He has also worked as a lawyer for Servier, a French company, whose diabetes drug Mediator is believed to have killed up to 2000 people.

With Sarkozy now out of the running for the 2017 French presidential election campaign, and several other outstanding cases against him – including a corruption inquiry, the dark cloud over his political credibility grows ever larger.

Autism linked to vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy, researchers find

NEWS

Study finds pregnant women with low vitamin D levels at 20 weeks more likely to have a child with autistic traits.

COMMENT

Proper nutrition, and especially an optimum supply of vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids, and other micronutrients, is vital for the developing fetus. Inadequate nourishment in any phase of pregnancy can have a long-term negative impact on the resulting child’s health.

Scientific research also clearly shows that micronutrient intake affects behavior. In one example, a study conducted in the United States found that school children given a daily micronutrient supplement for a period of 4 months had lower rates of threats and fighting, vandalism, being disrespectful, disorderly conduct, defiance, obscenities, refusal to work or serve, endangering others, and other offences. The researchers who carried out this study concluded that poor nutritional habits in children that lead to low concentrations of water-soluble vitamins in blood can impair brain function, and subsequently cause violence and other serious antisocial behavior.

Adding further support to the evidence of a relationship between vitamin D and autism, a recent study found that supplements of this micronutrient improved symptoms in children with this disorder.

Women who take paracetamol and ibuprofen risk going deaf

NEWS

Women who take paracetamol or ibuprofen just twice a week could be damaging their hearing permanently.

COMMENT

While painkillers have a place in acute medical situations, the fact is that they are increasingly being promoted as long-term solutions to patients suffering from chronic diseases. In this sense they can arguably be seen as a classic example of the drug industry’s focus on treating the symptoms of disease and avoiding the root causes. Worryingly, therefore, while the long-term effects of painkillers are well-known, in many cases they are not being properly communicated either to patients or their doctors.

In the case of paracetamol, for example, a scientific review published in 2015 examined the risks of taking it on a long-term basis and found that the dangers are seemingly being underestimated by clinicians. Published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases journal, researchers from the UK examined eight studies assessing the association between chronic use of the painkiller and major adverse events. Contrary to the general impression given by the pharma industry and its stakeholders that paracetamol is a safe “cure-all” drug, the researchers discovered that long term use raises the risk of heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, renal failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, and early death.

In sharp contrast to painkillers and other pharmaceutical drugs, which focus merely on treating the symptoms of diseases, Dr. Rath’s Cellular Medicine approach concentrates on correcting their root causes. Still unknown to the majority of doctors today, chronic deficiencies of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other micronutrients are the primary cause of today’s most common chronic diseases, including various forms of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and others. An optimum daily intake of the correct micronutrients is thus the scientific answer to maintaining health naturally and controlling diseases both safely and effectively.

Could folic acid decrease dementia risk?

NEWS

Supplementation with folic acid might help reduce the long-term risk of dementia in populations with low baseline levels and no fortification programs, research suggests.

COMMENT

Scientific research is increasingly showing that certain micronutrients are effective against Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. These include omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, flavonoids, resveratrol, pycnogenol, and others.

Significantly, therefore, a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that a combination of B vitamins and high levels of omega-3 fatty acids can halt the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Following 168 elderly people with mild cognitive impairment, it provided further clinical evidence that the most effective supplementation is achieved through utilizing carefully chosen combinations of nutrients acting in biological synergy.

Non-infectious diseases such as cancer rising sharply in Africa

NEWS

More people in Africa will die from diseases such as cancer, heart problems or diabetes than infectious diseases by 2030, according to the World Health Organisation, which found the continent recorded the highest prevalence rates of high blood pressure in the world.

COMMENT

While the Pharma Cartel will doubtless be celebrating the news that the incidence of chronic diseases is rising in Africa, it realizes that awareness of the natural alternatives to drug-based medicine is growing rapidly worldwide. As a result of the research and discoveries of Dr. Rath and scientists at the Dr. Rath Research Institute, for example, we now know that the two biggest killer diseases, namely, heart disease and cancer, are controllable naturally using synergistic combinations of specific micronutrients.

At the global level, our goal therefore has to be to make natural preventive health a human right. Towards achieving this, as Dr. Rath stated in his Barletta Declaration in 2014, our Foundation is committed to making every effort to spread the life-saving benefits of nutritional and Cellular Medicine. We will not rest until this new healthcare system has reached the last corners of the world. From the Amazon Forest to the mountains of the Himalayas, from the favelas of Latin America to the townships of Africa, our message to the world is clear: “Health is available to all! Come and join us now!”

If you would like to get involved with our global campaign for natural preventive health, please contact us, we’ll look forward to hearing from you and discussing how we can work with you to get active in your area.

DHA supplements may boost semen and sperm quality

NEWS

Supplements of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) may reduce the amount of DNA damage in sperm, says a new randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study.

COMMENT

The finding of this study is in line with previous research which has found that infertile men have lower levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their sperm than fertile men. Other work has shown that antioxidant supplements, coenzyme Q10 supplementation, and a diet rich in folate may improve sperm quality and even pregnancy rates. A positive correlation between the percentage of motile sperm and serum vitamin D levels has also been noted.

Ultimately, of course, as with all matters relating to human health, male fertility does not depend on the presence of any one single micronutrient but on an optimum supply of all the key cellular nutrients. When choosing any supplement, however, you should always make sure it is scientifically proven to be effective and that it is designed according to the principles of nutrient synergy.

Nutrition-focused program for hospital patients reduces readmissions by 30%: Study

NEWS

Screening incoming patients for malnutrition and prompt initiation of an oral nutrition supplement program may shorten a patient's length of hospital stay by 25% and reduce the risk of readmission by 27%, says a new study.

COMMENT

In most countries, the food that is fed to patients in hospitals is notoriously unappetizing and fails to supply them with optimum levels of all the key micronutrients. Given what we now know about the importance of nutrition in the prevention and control of diseases, there is therefore a good case to be made that providing inadequate nutrition in hospitals arguably amounts to medical negligence.

In recent years there has been a growing number of studies published which show daily use of supplements can reduce national healthcare costs. With the amounts that could be saved amounting to billions of dollars per country per year, there is simply no excuse for governments delaying the implementation of this finding into national healthcare policies.

To learn how wounds and surgical incisions can be healed through taking optimum amounts of vitamin C and the amino acids lysine and proline, read this article written by scientists at the Dr. Rath Research Institute in California.

$1,570,000,000,000: how much the world spent on arms this year

NEWS

Increased fears about global stability and the rise of new military powers is driving a return to steady growth in worldwide defence spending. A new analysis of arms spending from Jane’s Defence Budgets report found that outlays on weapons, equipment rose 1pc in 2016, to a global total of $1.57 trillion.

COMMENT

As we have pointed out previously on these pages, the world now spends more money on its armed forces in one week than it would cost to feed the hungry for an entire year.

In 2008, the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization estimated the cost of eradicating hunger at only 30 billion dollars a year. This amount equates to a mere 0.04% of gross world product (the total value of all goods and services produced on the planet in a single year) – a miniscule fraction of global earnings.

The fact is that had the political will existed, global hunger could have been ended a long time ago. Unlike the waging of wars to create the necessary psychological state of fear for maintaining global control, our so-called political leaders have not seen feeding the hundreds of millions of starving people on our planet as politically important.

This is why, in the area of food, the goals of the Movement of Life are to end the ‘GMO Madness’ and bring an end to malnutrition and world hunger. If enough of us become active in sharing the truth and educating people about the facts, global hunger can and will be brought to an end.

High-dose vitamin D supplementation helps slash risk of falls among elderly

NEWS

A combination of low-frequency exercise and high-dose vitamin D supplementation could help reduce risk of falls in the elderly by more than 70%, a new trial suggests.

COMMENT

Contrary to the impression we often get from the mass media, frailty and falls are not inevitable in the elderly. Worryingly, however, bearing in mind the growing extent to which older people are becoming subject to polypharmacy these days, research has shown that several types of drugs are associated with an increased risk of falls.

We need to understand that ageing is not something we have no control over. Biologically speaking, it is entirely possible to be much younger than our chronological age. The body is a self-repairing system and is designed to keep us fully functional for as long as we take proper care of it.

Through paying careful attention to our lifestyles and diet, ensuring we obtain optimum amounts of all the key micronutrients, and getting plenty of exercise, the diseases, dysfunctions, disabilities, and dependencies of ageing CAN be avoided!

'Euro was a mistake,' says Nobel Prize-winning economist

NEWS

The European Union should start the decentralization process and give the right of decision-making to its member states, according to the Nobel Prize-winning economist Oliver Hart.

COMMENT

As it has repeatedly demonstrated to the world in recent years, the Brussels EU is utterly incapable of reform. Oliver Hart is therefore deluding himself if he believes any major decentralization of power and devolving of decision-making to European member states will take place anytime soon. That said, however, regarding the other key point he makes in this article, that the euro currency should be abandoned, he is of course completely correct.

In fact, Hart’s words about the euro currency echo those of another Nobel Prize-winning economist, Joseph Stiglitz, who recently stated he believes that one more political event similar to the UK's recent decision to leave the Brussels EU is all it would take to trigger a "cataclysmic event" that could lead not only to the collapse of the euro currency but also the end of the Brussels EU itself.

But we should not fool ourselves into thinking the financial problems that have ensued from the euro were simply ‘mistakes’. In a little-reported statement given in March 2016 at the influential London School of Economics in the UK, Lord Mervyn King, the former Governor of the Bank of England, confirmed that the financial crisis afflicting Europe since 2009 is essentially the result of a “deliberate” act of policy. Highly critical of the destructive economic strategies of the Brussels EU, he predicted that, in order to free its weakest member countries from the strangulating combination of austerity measures and high unemployment they are suffering from, the euro currency zone will have to be dismantled.

As the Brexit vote on June 23 has demonstrated, the beginning of the end of the Brussels EU is already now underway. If the people of Europe come together and work hard enough towards it, a ‘Europe for the People, by the People’ can and will emerge.

Anticoagulants to reduce stroke risk may increase incidence of heart attacks

NEWS

Medical researchers at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich have discovered why a new class of anticoagulants designed to reduce the risk of strokes can—in rare cases—increase the incidence of heart attacks.

COMMENT

The discovery made by these researchers illustrates one of the key strategies of the pharma ‘business with disease’, namely: the deliberate causing of new diseases with drugs. Through merely masking symptoms and not treating the root causes of health problems, the side effects caused by prescription drugs are highly profitable for pharma companies as they almost inevitably lead to patients taking still further medications.

However, there are safe, natural, drug-free approaches to reducing the risk of strokes and heart attacks. To learn about them, read Dr. Rath’s classic book, Why Animals Don’t Get Heart Attacks…But People Do!

Dietary magnesium associated with reduced risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes

NEWS

A diet rich in magnesium may reduce the risk of diseases including coronary heart disease, stroke and type-2 diabetes according to a new meta-analysis published in the open access journal BMC Medicine.

COMMENT

Involving data from more than one million people across nine countries, this analysis of the evidence on dietary magnesium and health outcomes is said to be the largest ever conducted.

One of the key cellular micronutrients, magnesium is nature’s calcium antagonist. Its benefit for the cardiovascular system is similar to that of the calcium antagonist drugs that are prescribed in orthodox medicine – except that magnesium is safe and produced by nature itself. Clinical studies have shown that magnesium is particularly important for helping to normalize high blood pressure and that it can also assist in correcting irregular heartbeat.

However, and as we have pointed out many times on these pages, the fact is that no single micronutrient alone can prevent, treat, or cure chronic diseases. Instead, for the most effective prevention and control of health problems it is necessary to use carefully chosen, synergistic combinations of micronutrients in amounts that are balanced  according to the latest scientific findings. This approach is central to the Cellular Medicine method that has been pioneered by Dr. Rath. It is also used in the scientific studies carried out at the Dr. Rath Research Institute.

Running actually lowers inflammation in knee joints

NEWS

We all know that running causes a bit of inflammation and soreness, and that's just the price you pay for cardiovascular health. You know; no pain, no gain. Well, maybe not. New research from BYU exercise science professors finds that pro-inflammatory molecules actually go down in the knee joint after running. In other words, it appears running can reduce joint inflammation.

COMMENT

Inflammation is by far the most frequent health problem we face during our lives. It is associated with every infection that occurs in the body, such as the flu or lung infections. But inflammation is not confined solely to infections, it is also associated with common diseases such as arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and cancer. Moreover, it is also the body's response to sunburn, cuts, a twisted ankle, and strenuous exercise.

Research carried out at the Dr. Rath Research Institute has shown that specific combinations of natural micronutrients are superior to pharmaceutical drugs when it comes to controlling key mechanisms of inflammation. While some individual nutrients may also display anti-inflammatory effects, a carefully chosen synergistic mixture of micronutrients is far more effective and can simultaneously target multiple mechanisms involved in the inflammatory response.

To learn more about the benefits of the micronutrient synergy approach in inflammation, read this edition of the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s health information newsletter.

Antibiotics leave children 'more likely to contract drug-resistant infections'

NEWS

Public health official warns children’s risk of drug-resistant infections 12 times higher in months following course of antibiotics.

COMMENT

At its root, what we have here is yet another media scare story about the rise of drug-resistant infections and the need for government policy-makers to make efforts to solve the problem now rather than waiting for the beginning of a global crisis.

While it is of course true that policy makers SHOULD be making immediate efforts to tackle this problem, the reality is that they are looking in the wrong place for solutions. With essentially little or no attention being paid by them to the fact that micronutrient supplementation can enhance immune function and suppress infection, we have to question whether their primary interest is in protecting their citizens – or the financial interests of the pharmaceutical ‘business with disease’.

Ultimately, media scare stories about the declining effectiveness and dangers of existing antibiotics are designed to frighten us into believing that patented drugs, designed and produced by the pharmaceutical industry, are the only possible solution for the control of infections. In reality, it is precisely these same types of news stories that have helped create the problem of global pharmaceutical dependency in the first place.

But by sharing this information as widely as possible, you can play your part in freeing the people of the world from pharma-dependency and laying the foundations for a new healthcare system based upon nutritional and Cellular Medicine approaches.

School kids recreate Martin Shkreli's $750 drug at fraction of the cost

NEWS

Martin Shkreli became known as the most hated man in America after he raised the price of an antiparasitic drug to $750 (£600). Now a group of Australian schoolboys has recreated it for a fraction of the cost.

COMMENT

The reputation and credibility of the pharma industry sank to a new low in September 2015 with news that the price of Daraprim (Pyrimethamine), an anti-parasitic drug that is on the World Health Organization’s list of essential medicines, had been raised from $13.50 to $750 per tablet. Marketed since the 1950s, the drug was acquired by Turing Pharmaceuticals, a start-up company run by Martin Shkreli, a former hedge fund manager. Astonishingly, with even the global mass media seemingly aghast at this latest case of pharma greed, Shkreli shamelessly attempted to portray the 5000% price rise as “altruistic”.

Subsequently arrested on securities fraud and wire fraud charges by the United States FBI, authorities have described Shkreli as having a habit of spreading falsehoods and running his businesses on misappropriated money. While his ultimate fate will be a matter for the courts to determine, his shaming here by a bunch of school kids is just the latest in what seems set to become a long list of well-deserved humiliations.

Towards our goal of a new global healthcare system based on scientific breakthroughs in the areas of vitamin research and cellular health, it is important to keep in mind however that merely lowering the prices of pharmaceutical drugs will not in itself solve the global healthcare crisis. In this sense the story about Turing Pharmaceuticals and Martin Shkreli can in part be seen as a distraction, in that it completely ignores the deeper problem concerning the inability of pharma-oriented healthcare approaches to address and correct the root causes of diseases. The main issue with drugs, in other words, is not simply their price but their ineffectiveness.

Cancer drugs may remain approved despite lack of benefit

NEWS

In the United States, cancer drugs are sometimes approved through sped-up processes - and they often stay approved even if later studies show them to be inferior to other options or even worse than doing nothing, a new study found.

COMMENT

Chemotherapy drugs don’t only affect cancer cells, they damage all of the body’s organs and cell systems. As such, for most patients, each cycle of these poisonous chemicals results not only in severe pain, but also a multitude of additional health problems. In order to help patients cope with this, more drugs are prescribed. These inevitably result in their suffering still further side effects and additional misery. Nevertheless, despite there being no significant benefit to all this, in many patients chemotherapy continues to be administered almost right up to the point of death.

Ultimately, the only beneficiary from this torturous practice is the trillion-dollar-a-year pharmaceutical ‘business with disease’, for whom oncology drugs are now its highest-earning therapy area. Sales of drugs for cancer now reach almost $79 billion dollars a year, with sales of painkillers and other classes of drugs contributing still further to the profit the pharma industry makes from this disease.

Unlike chemotherapy and other patented chemical drug treatments for cancer, natural health approaches utilizing the synergistic power of Cellular Medicine have been shown to simultaneously inhibit the multiplication of cancer cells and growth of tumors; the spread of cancer (metastasis); the formation of blood vessels in tumors (angiogenesis); as well as induce the natural death of cancer cells (apoptosis).

The extensive research conducted by Dr. Rath, Dr. Niedzwiecki and their team in these key areas has proven that a specific combination of micronutrients – including vitamin C, the amino acids lysine and proline, and an extract from green tea – work together synergistically and are effective in controlling over two dozen different types of cancers.

Vitamin D status in newborns and risk of MS in later life

NEWS

Babies born with low levels of vitamin D may be more likely to develop multiple sclerosis (MS) later in life than babies with higher levels of vitamin D, according to a study published in the November 30, 2016, online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

COMMENT

A disease in which the myelin sheaths – the insulating covers of the body’s nerve fibres – are damaged, multiple sclerosis is believed to affect more than 2 million people worldwide. Most commonly diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40, the course of the illness can take several forms.

In relapsing-remitting forms of the disease symptoms tend to appear, disappear and then return again; in progressive forms they build up over time. Symptoms are wide-ranging and vary between patients but can include visual disturbances; muscle weakness; coordination and balance problems; sensations such as numbness, prickling pains or “pins and needles”; and memory problems. In some people the disease results in sufferers losing the ability to write, speak or walk.

With conventional medicine having no effective treatment for this disease, the scientific evidence is mounting that a lack of vitamin D may increase the risk of developing it. While researchers qualify their findings by saying it may be too much to expect therapeutic vitamin D alone to treat or reverse pre-existing multiple sclerosis, it is notable that other micronutrients such as coenzyme Q10biotinlipoic acidvitamin B12L-carnitinepolyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E have already been shown to be helpful in controlling it. As such, rather than patients having to heed the advice of the large pharma-influenced multiple sclerosis charities and place their hopes in drug research, the evidence clearly suggests that micronutrients offer a safe and effective alternative.

Review backs vitamin D supplements as eczema remedy

NEWS

Sufferers of atopic dermatitis are more likely to have low serum vitamin D levels and vitamin D supplements could be a new way to combat the common skin condition, a review has said.

COMMENT

The skin is not only the largest organ in the body, it is also a mirror of the health of the body’s internal organs. Many diseases of the digestive, cardiovascular and nervous systems, as well as hormonal imbalances and inflammatory conditions, are reflected in it. Essentially ignoring this, however, thousands of skin care creams are being promoted that cater to consumers who hope to avoid acne, discoloration, signs of aging, and other skin problems.

Unlike many of the skin care industry’s products, which fail to fully address the root cause of skin problems such as eczema – namely, micronutrient deficiencies – Dr. Rath’s Cellular Medicine approach has been shown to be highly effective in treating even serious skin conditions. To take one example, the Dr. Rath Research Institute has published a very impressive case report of a 36-year-old woman who had suffered from severe psoriasis since she was 22. The disease was present everywhere except for the face, and the patient had been using topical skin creams for 14 years with no significant improvement.

While continuing her usual treatment, the patient improved her dietary habits and started taking a specific micronutrient combination that included vitamin C, lysine, proline, and other essential daily micronutrients in synergistic proportions. The increased intake of micronutrients helped to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, as well as improving the body’s immune response. In the second month of taking the micronutrients, the patient started noticing the psoriatic patches on the upper half of her body were healing. Improvement continued and although the leg lesions were the last to heal, at the end of six months the patient reported complete healing of all the psoriatic plaques.

To learn more about the benefits of micronutrients for healthy skin, read this issue of the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s health information newsletter.

Immune System, Unleashed by Cancer Therapies, Can Attack Organs

NEWS

As Chuck Peal lay in a Waterbury, Conn., emergency room one Sunday in early September, doctors furiously tried to make sense of his symptoms. Mr. Peal, 61, appeared to be dying, and they were not sure why.

COMMENT

With awareness growing rapidly regarding the ineffectiveness of toxic chemotherapy to cure cancer, the Pharma Cartel is spending vast amounts of money hyping so-called immunotherapy drugs as the answer to this disease. With estimates already suggesting that immune system cancer drugs could have potential sales of $35 billion a year, the ‘Business with Disease’ is attempting to reassure doctors and patients alike that they are both safe and effective. Just as with chemotherapy, however, the fact is that such drugs are neither of these things.

Instead from addressing the nutrient deficiencies that are the root cause of cancer, immunotherapy drugs attempt to stimulate the immune system to attack cancer as ferociously as it does other threats, such as viruses and bacteria. As doctors are beginning to discover, however, not only can this cause life-threatening side effects – it can also result in death.

To learn about safe and effective natural approaches to controlling cancer that have been scientifically shown to block all key mechanisms that make it a deadly disease, read Victory Over Cancer, by Dr. Rath and Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki.

Poor diet sees scurvy reappear in Australia

NEWS

Scurvy, a disease historically associated with old-world sailors on long voyages, is making a surprise comeback in Australia, with health officials Tuesday revealing a rare spate of cases.

COMMENT

Clinical scurvy is caused by a severe and chronic lack of vitamin C. While it remains rare today, vitamin C deficiency is actually far more common than many people realize. Moreover, we now have scientific proof that it is the primary cause of cardiovascular disease.

In fact, the reality is that today’s most common chronic diseases, including not only various forms of cardiovascular diseases but also cancer, diabetes, and others, result from a chronic deficiency of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other specific micronutrients. Pioneered by Dr. Rath and supported by researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute in California, the Cellular Medicine approach specifically addresses this and describes how chronic micronutrient deficiencies are the most frequent cause of cellular malfunction and the primary cause of many chronic health conditions and susceptibility to various diseases.

In September 2011, in a graphic illustration of the continued failure of orthodox medicine to address micronutrient deficiencies, the World Economic Forum published an analysis of the global economic impact of the five leading non-communicable diseases: cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, cancer, diabetes and mental illness. Estimating that by 2030 their total costs could reach $47 trillion, the official news release accompanying the analysis openly admitted that this scenario had the potential to bankrupt national healthcare systems.

Correcting micronutrient deficiencies, and thereby preventing the chronic diseases caused by them, can avert this devastating economic outcome. The time to start implementing this at the global level is NOW!

Chemotherapy can cause metastasis

NEWS

New research at Israel's Technion reveals that the body acts to assist the tumor because it identifies chemotherapy as damaging.

COMMENT

To frequent visitors to our website, the fact that chemotherapy drugs actually cause new cancers can hardly be considered “news”. Nevertheless, it is most heartening to see that awareness of this scientific fact is growing.

In clinical situations, however, the dangers of chemotherapy to cancer patients continues to be massively understated. Through research carried out in the UK, for example, we now know that in some hospitals, within 30 days of starting treatment, chemotherapy is killing up to 50 per cent of the people who receive it.

But with a chronic deficiency of vitamins, amino acids, and other specific micronutrients now known to be the primary cause of today’s most common chronic diseases, chemotherapy is not – and will never be – a cure for cancer. Instead, and as growing numbers of patients are testifying, victory over cancer is possible using safe, effective, natural approaches.

If enough of us become active in sharing the facts about natural cancer treatment as widely as possible, needless suffering and deaths from chemotherapy can be avoided and, as a result, millions of lives saved.

Metabolic syndrome is the name for a group of risk factors that increase the risk of developing heart disease and other health problems, such as diabetes and stroke. It comprises a diversity of symptoms such as high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

So far as blood sugar levels are concerned, while conventional medicine focuses on drugs to artificially reduce them, Dr. Rath’s Cellular Medicine approach utilizes a carefully chosen group of synergistic micronutrients to achieve this naturally, safely, and without side effects.

Illustrating the effectiveness of the Cellular Medicine approach, researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute have conducted a pilot clinical trial in patients suffering from type II diabetes. After 6 months of following a scientifically designed micronutrient program, the participants showed a 23% decrease in their blood sugar levels. The supplements also helped reduce levels of glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), an important parameter of long-term blood sugar management, by an average of 9.3%.

With sustained high blood sugar levels leading to serious diabetic complications including atherosclerosis, stroke, kidney failure, neuropathy, impaired wound healing, cataracts, and long-term disability, these findings give hope that prevention and management of high blood sugar is possible without the devastating side effects of prescription drugs.

To learn more about the ways in which micronutrients help in the maintenance of blood sugar, read this issue of the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s health information newsletter.

Hopes for new Alzheimer's drug dashed

NEWS

A major trial of a drug to treat mild dementia due to Alzheimer's disease has ended in failure.

COMMENT

Scientific studies clearly show that micronutrients such as resveratrol, omega-3, vitamin C, vitamin D, B vitamins, flavonoids, and vitamin E are effective against Alzheimer’s disease.

Particularly notably, a study carried out by scientists at the University of Oxford in the UK has shown that a combination of B vitamins and high levels of omega-3 fatty acids prevent brain shrinkage – a hallmark of the devastating condition. Following the publication of this study, lead researcher Professor David Smith said he now believes patients showing early signs of dementia should immediately be given omega-3 fatty acids along with vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid and that this approach should be adopted by the UK’s National Health Service.

Lancet study on statins was 'fundamentally flawed', critics say

NEWS

A major Lancet study which backed the safety of statins was “fundamentally flawed” and underestimated the side-effects of the heart drugs, a group of medics has said.

COMMENT

It has been well known for over a quarter of a century now that statins lower the body’s levels of CoQ10, a key micronutrient. Studies have shown that this can contribute to the development of a wide range of side-effects and serious health problems.

Notably, therefore, in May and June 1990 the drug company Merck took out patents on the use of CoQ10 in combination with statin drugs. However, despite apparently believing that the inclusion of CoQ10 with statins would be of “considerable benefit” to patients, Merck has never marketed any products containing this combination. One can therefore only assume that the company’s main motivation at the time it took out these patents was essentially to prevent other drug makers from doing so.

Nevertheless, with global sales of statins and other so-called ‘lipid regulators’ having fallen more than 32% over the past 5 years, evidence is growing that the pharma industry’s multibillion dollar ‘cholesterol bubble’ has now burst. From a global highpoint of 39.1 billion dollars in 2011, sales of statins and other lipid-regulators have subsequently fallen every single year. By 2015 they had plummeted to 26.5 billion dollars. With drug patents expiring and a growing worldwide awareness of the dangers of statins, this downward trend seems set to continue.

Probiotics boost athletes’ immune system defenses: Study

NEWS

Taking daily probiotics may help boost immune systems of training athletes and reduce their risk of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), a study has found.

COMMENT

These days, with millions of dollars at stake, elite sports teams and coaches are monitoring the health of their athletes more closely than ever. In the world of professional sport, winning competitions and trophies is directly dependent on maximizing performance and ensuring that sports stars stay injury-free. Notably, therefore, research is increasingly demonstrating that supplements can play a key role in this.

One of the key nutrients that has received a lot of attention in the world of elite sport recently is vitamin D. Teams in all U.S. major leagues, some college athletic departments, and the U.S. men’s and women’s soccer teams are all now believed to have started tracking their players’ levels and intake of this essential nutrient. With work carried out by researchers from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, Scotland, confirming that vitamin D supplements can improve exercise performance, the growing worldwide interest in the use of nutrition and supplements to improve athletic performance seems set to continue.

To learn more about the importance of micronutrients for athletic performance, including how the unique nutrient synergy approach works at the cellular level to support and strengthen the body, read this issue of the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s health information newsletter.

Curcumin supplementation shows benefits for people with severe depression: Study

NEWS

Supplementation with curcumin has been found to be effective in reducing depressive and anxiolytic symptoms in people with major depressive disorders.

COMMENT

Over the past few decades, a large number of studies have been conducted to evaluate the health promoting properties of curcumin.

As antioxidants, we now know that curcuminoid compounds help maintain a healthy cardiovascular system by improving the viscosity of blood and reducing plaque formation in the arteries. Recent studies show that curcumin helps maintain cholesterol levels by reducing low-density cholesterol (LDL) and triglyceride levels. In addition, it can reverse insulin resistance in the early stages of diabetes.

By acting as a free radical scavenger curcumin can also prevent oxidative DNA damage. This damage to cellular DNA is known to initiate cancer by converting normal cells into cancerous ones. The anti-cancer properties of curcumin include various cellular mechanisms such as reduction in cancer cell growth, initiation of apoptosis (cancer cell death), inhibition of collagen digesting matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) enzymes, and prevention of angiogenesis. By inducing the enzymes involved in cell death, curcumin can selectively eliminate cancer cells formed in the organ systems.

To learn more about the impressive health protective effects of curcumin, read this issue of the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s health information newsletter.

Chronic wound patients who never receive opioids heal faster, new study finds

NEWS

Patients with chronic wounds who never receive opioids heal faster than those who do receive the drugs, according to a new study by George Washington University (GW) researcher Victoria Shanmugam, M.D.

COMMENT

This study provides yet another example of pharmaceutical drugs interfering with the body’s repair mechanisms.

For wounds to heal properly it is not drugs that are needed, but micronutrients. In the first few days following major injury or surgery, the body's vitamin C may fall to dramatically low levels. In one hospital study, for example, the vitamin C levels of critically injured patients were uniformly found to be at severe scurvy levels. Only high daily doses containing multiple grams of vitamin C were effective in restoring blood levels back to normal.

While there is essentially no economic interest from the pharma ‘business with disease’ in funding studies using micronutrients for wound healing, there is already enough clinical evidence to support supplementation in patients. To learn more about the importance and use of micronutrients in wound healing, read this article by scientific researchers from the Dr. Rath Research Institute.

José Manuel Barroso cleared of ethics breach over Goldman Sachs job

NEWS

An ethics panel has cleared the former European commission chief José Manuel Barroso of breaking an EU integrity code for taking a job at Goldman Sachs.

COMMENT

Earlier this year, multinational investment bank Goldman Sachs announced it had hired José Manuel Barroso, the former president of the Brussels EU Commission, as an advisor and nonexecutive chairman of its Goldman Sachs International arm. With Goldman Sachs accused by many people of helping set off the 2008 global financial crisis and then profiting from it by defrauding investors, Barroso’s mercenary acceptance of the appointment predictably attracted widespread outrage. Given the historical roots of the Brussels EU construct, however, we should hardly be surprised that it has essentially chosen to ignore the controversy and clear him of any breach of ethics in accepting the job.

Notably, therefore, despite the extensive media reporting in connection with this issue, little attention has been paid to the fact that the road to Barroso being hired by Goldman Sachs may have begun at a meeting of the clandestine Bilderberg Group. Diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids may help lower blood pressure in young, healthy adults

NEWS

Healthy young people may be able to help prevent the onset of high blood pressure by eating diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids, according to a preliminary study presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2016.

COMMENT

Frequently termed the "silent killer" because there are no significant warning signs, consistent high blood pressure damages multiple organ systems in the body. Over a long period, unregulated high blood pressure increases a person's risk of a fatal heart attack or stroke and is a cause of many other debilitating conditions such as heart failure, kidney damage, and various eye problems including blindness.

Some people may have an inherited risk of high blood pressure, or the problem may originate from organs such as the kidneys, adrenals, thyroid, or develop during pregnancy. However, in most other situations high blood pressure is referred to as "essential hypertension," indicating that its cause is unknown to conventional medicine.

But as Dr. Rath’s breakthrough scientific understanding reveals, the main cause of high blood pressure turns out to be a chronic deficiency of essential micronutrients in the millions of smooth muscle cells lining the blood vessel walls. Nutrients such as vitamin C, lysine, proline, arginine, magnesium and others are critical for maintaining the strength and elasticity of the blood vessels, and thereby for maintaining normal blood pressure.

To read how the micronutrient synergy approach helps in high blood pressure, read this issue of the Dr. Rath Research Institute’s health information newsletter
